Weekly Update
Week 2B and 3A
Dear Parents,
It seems amazing to think that this time last week the girls had just completed their cross country, and what a great job they did too. For those of you who were able to attend, I hope you enjoyed the supportive PLC spirit and the 'giving it my best shot' attitude.

Unit of Inquiry:
We have finished the UOI, "Over time, living things need to adapt in order to survive" and the girls have made very deep reflections on their learning. Many of the girls are keen to take action on endangered animals and have been taking action in a variety of ways. A statistic that really shocked us all is that there are only 4 Northern White Rhinos alive in the world.New Unit of Inquiry:
Over the next week we are going to start our new UOI. The transdisciplinary theme is "How the World Works." The central idea is: The design of buildings and structures is dependent on the environment, human creativity and the availability of resources."
Lines of Inquiry:
Considerations to take into account when building a structure
The impact of buildings and structures on the environments
- Local architecture and its connection with the needs of the community and availability of materials
They key concepts are:
- Form
- Function
- Connection
More information about the unit will be shared as we begin to unpack it.
Looking for parents to come and share their expertise
We are looking for any parents who are knowledgeable in design/building structures to come and talk to the girls about any of the lines of inquiry mentioned above. We are hoping to have a morning where we have a group of parents, who could talk about their area for approximately 8 minutes. The girls would be organised into small groups of 5 and move around to each group and listen to the talk, take notes and then after a short period of time move to the next group. Ideally we are looking for 5 parent volunteers.....so if you have a background in building, architecture or construction we would love to hear from you. The proposed day and time is: Tuesday 18th August, 8.40am -10.20am
2 Tissue Boxes
The season of coughs and colds is here and we have run out of tissue boxes. Please send in 2 tissue boxes for the girls to use in class.
Ipads
This week the girls have been involved in lots of research related work. They have become very knowledgeable about endangered animals, written a haiku poem as well as designed an image to create awareness about the plight of endangered animals. We have noticed that there are a number of girls who are forgetting to bring their Ipads to school on a daily basis and some that are coming to school not charged. It is vital that the Ipads come in, fully charged each day as they are such an integral part of the curriculum.
Book Week and Arts Day
The girls are very excited about Book Week and arts Day. A letter came home earlier in the week that will need to be returned if your daughter is participating in busking.
Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers' Centre
We have some very keen writers in Year 3. If your daughter is interested in entering a writing competition please open the following website http://kspf.iinet.net.au/ and go to the 'competitions' tab. There is no entry fee.
Thank you for your continued support and have a lovely weekend.
