Tuskegee Airmen

This is the Tuskegee Airmen by the planes that were given the nickname "Red Tails"

Significant background info

  • They were some of the best pilots in WWII
  • They only lost about 25 bombers for the whole war
  • They were credited with over 150 Distinguished Flying crosses
  • They dealt with a lot of racial criticism
  • The white generals wouldn't let them go up in actual combat
  • They finally had their chance and went to go escort some bombers
  • People saw how good they actually were and more and more people wanted them to protect their bombers
The Tuskegee Red-Tail Angels

Famous quote

Nothing's difficult everything is a challenge through adversity, to the stars to the last plane to the last bullet to the last minute to the last man We fight we fight we fight.

-Tuskegee airmen (Red Tails)

One more significant fact

The Tuskegee Airmen once shot down three German jets in one day.

If you don't know much about pilots and planes then this may not seem like much. German jets were better than any other plane out there. The Red Tails flew P-51 mustangs. It was really hard to shoot one jet in a week now imagine 3 jets in a day.
