The Touching Safety Rules
Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4A and Pre-K 4B
Dear Parents,
Unfortunately, the program we use now is from Kindergarten up to 8th grade. However, I would be able to simplify the content to fit the Pre-K student's developmental level of instruction if you are willing to allow your child to participate.
Basically, the following topics would be covered: Who is a safe friend? Who are safe adults? ( Doctor, Mom and Dad to keep us healthy or clean) What is a safe touch?
I would discuss a few scenarios to illustrate these topics and ways for the children to respond whenever an uncomfortable touch of any kind occurs with other children, friends or adults here at school or at home. The lessons would be very short. An example of an unsafe touch would be touching the parts of the body covered with a swimsuit. I use a boy and girl teddy bear wearing swimsuits to illustrate those areas of the body. I do not mention body part names at all. If you have any reservations, you just have to let us know and we will allow children to opt-out.
Students will learn to respond with a strong "no" and to go and tell a safe adult. This response will occur for every scenario that we discuss. It is repetitive enough for them to understand that you can say no and they need to tell. You can tell your teacher in English if you do not know how to say it in Spanish. We will also discuss appropriate bathroom behavior and respecting privacy.
If you would like to opt-out please let me know by email. I plan to start on Monday, Nov. 20th. afarias@hrrsjda.org
