Lost Tablet
It’s very very important that we know within 24 hours if a student’s tablet is missing. After that, they are violating the policy (notify within 24 hours). The sooner we know about it, the more likely it is that the GPS will work. So if they tell you, please let us know!
Here is the procedure for an on-campus tablet that goes missing.
1. Students report a lost tablet to the media center within 1 day of it being lost.
2. Media Spec/CTC/PLEF/Tech Assistant tries to locate the tablet with the GPS (does not work if tablet is turned off or not connected to wifi).
3. Media Spec/Tech Assistant will send an email to the staff asking for help if necessary.
4. If tablet cannot be located, the incident is reported to the SRO who creates a case number.
5. The form is filled out with the case number. (See above.)
6. Information is given to the grade level administrator.
7. Student takes the form home, gets it signed, and returns it to Media Spec/CTC.
8. Student is issued replacement tablet.
Before the student comes to the Media Center, make sure that all the teachers on the team know (especially if there is a sub in one of the rooms) and that none of the other students have picked it up. Often someone simply picked it up to return to the student but hasn’t done so yet.
Inappropriate Use
The first step is to have clear rules about tablet use in your classroom:
- When are tablets allowed?
- Where should tablets be when not in use?
- What are the consequences for inappropriate use
In addition, make sure you are using the App Blocker and monitoring in the Classroom Manager.
If it's more severe, it may be necessary to refer the student to your administrator. In these cases, the administrator will determine the consequences, which may include retraining and/or being a day user.
Stolen Tablet
1. Report the stolen tablet to the police as soon as possible.
2. Report the stolen tablet to media center within 24 hours of it being stolen.
3. Give the police report number to the Media Specialist/Tech Assistant/PLEF.
4. Media Spec/CTC/PLEF/Tech Assistant tries to locate the tablet with the GPS (does not work if tablet is turned off or not connected to wifi).
5. A new tablet will be registered and delivered to the student after the police report case number has been given.
