Welcome
We are so excited for all of our new friends that have joined us in 2nd grade! This year is going to be filled with lots of fun adventures and laughter. We invite you to join us on our adventure of positive energy! Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Reminders
January 31- Hawk Assembly- (You will receive and invitation if your student is receiving an award.)
February 4- 100th Day of school
-Transportation changes need to be called into the front office.
-If you have any questions or concerns, contact your student's teacher.
-We love celebrating student birthdays!! In 2nd grade we will celebrate at the end of the day starting at 2:30 (only store bought cupcakes or treats).
-Please make sure your student comes to school dressed following the ROISD standardized dress code.
Family Focus
This year we are taking more of a family focused approach to homework. We believe that spending quality family time is vital in the success of your student. We will provide family friendly, engaging homework activities and assignments. We would love if you would send us pictures of these activities and share them with us.
This weeks Family focus: We are currently discussing weather. Have students look over a forecast and pick out their outfit depending on the weather for the day.
Academics
ELAR: This week students will continue making connections and identify character traits, authors purpose, and the central theme.
Math: Students will recognize use concrete models to recognize how many parts it takes to equal one whole and beyond a whole.
Science: We will continue discussing weather as well as seasons and how they affect our daily activities.
Social Studies: Students will explain how people and events have influenced local community history.
Students had fun using Play-doh to display their knowledge of fractions.
Students enjoyed performing contraction surgery
2nd Grade Adventures
In order to promote high attendance, we will be spelling out the word ATTENDANCE. Each day that our class has 100% attendance a letter will be added. When the whole word is spelled out, we will celebrate. We will also have a school wide prize for the grade level with the highest attendance. Please help us reach our goal in 2nd grade!
Reading at home Expectations
Students should be reading fluently and with expression.
As you read with students good discussions to have are about :
- Setting
-Characters
-Character traits
-Discussing the events in order, recapping as you read.
-identifying the problem and solution in the story
