English Language Arts
Student would have learned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person point of view in lower grades. In the 5th grade we start to discover how the narrator's perspective can affect or change the story. We will continue to work on POV this week and students can anticipate an assessment over POV early next week.
Test Items may ask the student to use details from the text to explain the impact that a narrator’s or speaker’s point of view has on the description of events. Items should not exclusively ask the student to identify the narrator’s or speaker’s point of view.
* Our next standard we will be tackling will be LAFS.5.RL.3.9: Compare and contrast stories in the same genre (e.g., mysteries and adventure stories) on their approaches to similar themes and topics.

Chapter 5: The American Revolution
This is by far my favorite time period in us history. There are 5 Lessons in this Chapter and a lot of information. Make sure your child is reviewing nightly so that they don't have to play catch-up later. Remember you can find current assignments in Edmodo and students will have 10 minutes of nightly homework in Social Studies. We will start with Lesson 1 next week.
