Preparing For Parent Teacher Conferences
- What is my child's area of strength?
- What specific strategy can I use to help my child keep the area of strength?
- What is my child's area for improvement?
- What specific strategy can I use to help my child build on an area for improvement?
It is important for the teacher, scholar and parents to be on the same page. One critical part of the conversation during parent-teacher conferences will be the strategy to help your child retain the strength and/or build on an area for improvement. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please call the office at (313) 426-1020 or email Ms. Coleman at d.coleman@mecc-academies.org.
Laptop Care and Tips

- Ensure scholars are stationary when using the iPad or Chromebook
- Monitor data usage on the hotspot
- When lessons have concluded for the day, ensure the scholar places the device in the same location for the next day
- Ensure technology devices are plugged in to charge at the end of the school day in order for scholars to have a fully charged device for the next school day.
If you have any questions, please let me know via email at d.coleman@mecc-academies.org or by calling the office at (313) 426-1020.
Wellness Screening
Trix Academy will begin its wellness screening on November 16, 2020. This year is unlike any we have experienced, and the health and safety of our students is our top priority. To help identify students in need of additional support services, staff will administer a brief wellness survey to their students at least once each semester. Survey responses will be used to connect students with appropriate resources, including school health professionals (such as a school social worker), who may offer additional screening to determine specific concerns. During these unprecedented times when the safety of our students is critically important, we will not seek your permission for each student survey. If you do not want your child to participate in school wellness screenings, you may opt your child out, by contacting the office at (313) 426-1020 or you may email Ms. Coleman at d.coleman@mecc-academies.org.

Third Grade Reading Law
Being a good reader is critical if a student is going to be successful in school. In order for students to be college and career ready, it is important that they have strong literacy skills. In 2016, the Michigan Legislature passed House Bill No. 4822 to ensure that children who exit Third Grade are reading at grade level.
In accordance with this law, and as a means of better informing classroom instruction, we will complete assessments in Kindergarten through Third Grade. These assessments will identify students who need intensive reading instruction and will also provide useful information to help teachers tailor instruction to meet individual student needs. Students will be assessed in reading at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. The law also requires districts to provide written communication with parents of Kindergarten through Third Grade students who are not meeting proficiency targets. These notifications and a reading plan were given and discussed at Parent-Teacher Conferences during the first parent teacher conference. It is critical for everyone to be on the same page regarding Michigan’s reading law. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the principal.

Trix Academy is a uniform school. All scholars in grades K-8 are expected to be in proper uniform daily. Please ensure your child(ren) are in uniform daily.
