2019-2020 Calendar Remaining Dates
Utica Community Schools has released the remaining dates for the 2019-2020 calendar.
The calendar dates address state standards for student instructional time and are consistent with the Macomb Common Calendar. The calendar also addresses legislation allowing qualifying district-provided professional development to be reported as instructional time.
Below are the remaining calendar dates:
- Tuesday, March 10, 2020 (Presidential Primary Election) – This date has been designated as a professional development day for Utica Community Schools and there will be no classes for K-12 students.
- Friday, May 22, 2020 (Memorial Day Weekend) – This date has been designated as a professional development day for Utica Community Schools and there will be no classes for K-12 students.
- Friday, June 12, 2020 – This will be the last day of school for K-12 students. Please note: the end of the school year is tentative and subject to change due to collective bargaining and/or snow days.

Take Note...
We have finished the first month of the new year and are moving quickly through winter. We have been fortunate that the weather hasn't turned very cold or nasty so our kids can get outside each day for some fresh air and a chance to move around. Each day, we remind students to stay off of the icy areas in the lower field of the playground for safety and prevention of wet shoes/clothes. There are lots of other areas to walk, run, explore and play that are not covered in ice.
Havel is still looking for a few more lunch monitors to help, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday each week. If you have an hour to spare, we could use your help! Lunch monitors work inside and outside during their hour time. If we are short on adult supervision, then our lunch monitors will remain outside, or I will go outside for supervision while a lunch monitor runs the lunchroom, including clean up and dismissal for each shift. We would love to have one lunch monitor per grade each day, which would provide us with 7 lunch monitors each day. Please call the office if you are interested!
NWEA testing was completed this week. Students who missed testing due to illness can make up their missed test next week. Students in grades K-3, whose NWEA shows a need for reading support, will receive updated or new a IRP (Individualized Reading Plan) in the next two weeks. Teachers will share IRP paperwork for parents to sign. If you have questions on your child's IRP, please contact your child's teacher, or reach out to me for clarification.
Havel received some good news from the district this week. Thanks to your support on the bond initiative in 2018, all teachers in grades 3-6 will be receiving an additional 2 laptops per classroom for daily student use. Havel will also be receiving additional laptops for teachers to check out and use throughout the school. These new machines will be arriving prior to the state testing window, which starts in April. All UCS elementary schools will be receiving new laptops for student use from our UCS bond dollars.
Have a great week!
