STAAR Testing

This year our STAAR test dates will begin a bit earlier than in years past. We are excited about the change, as it gives our students time to rest and recharge in between testing sessions. Please see the schedule below and plan for your child to be present on testing dates. As a reminder, only our third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be taking the STAAR test. Third and fourth grade students test in both Reading and Math; fifth grade students test in Reading, Math, and Science. Any student who does not complete the TEA-required STAAR tests for the grade level will be required to complete 30 hours of tutoring in each tested subject by the end of the subsequent school year. For more information, please reference Texas House Bill 4545. Finally, parents please note that our campus will be closed to visitors on all testing dates.

7 Mindsets: 100% Accountable

The mindset for the month of March is 100% Accountable. The 100% Accountable Mindset teaches the importance of being responsible for our own happiness and success. Being 100% Accountable means deciding not to be victims of the past and recognizing that the future is not predetermined, so our lives are what we choose in the present moment and each moment moving forward. In these lessons, we help students focus on recognizing our fears and excuses. This mindset is about the importance of breaking down barriers and taking responsibility for our thoughts and actions. It also allows us to free our minds and focus our energy on taking the critical steps toward our goals.

Parenting Tip: Friendship Drama

The other day my daughter came home from school in tears because her best friend wouldn't play with her that day. It broke my heart to see her so upset.

When our kids come to us with a problem like this, it can be tough to know what to do. We might think:

"Do I get involved?”

“What should I say?”

“How can I help my child get over this?"

As parents, we want to fix our children’s problems and protect them from feeling hurt. But a more powerful approach is to let your child experience the hurt feelings and conflict from a safe distance.

Supporting your child through their emotions rather than trying to fix their problems, allows your child to feel their feelings and learn how to process them in a way that works for them (a lifelong skill!).

"Coaching Your Child Through Friendship Drama," offers examples and scripts to help you have those tough conversations with your child as you guide them through their friendship struggles.
