October 26, 2017

I hope that you are planning to be at the TRUNK OR TREAT tomorrow with your family. Children can come dressed in appropriate costumes (optional) and go from trunk to trunk to get treats. There will also be games, a cake walk, bounce houses, bouncy basketball, a bouncy obstacle course, etc. There will be simple food sales as well. This is a family event, children may not be dropped off on their own regardless of age. Donations of candy and baked goods are still needed. Be sure to label them with your name and include the receipt so that your service hours are correct.

PARKING: You may park in the back PE court, on the street or in the parking lot of Fraternity Baptist Church. If you park in the front or at Fraternity, you will enter through the pedestrian gates.

Kids should bring a bag to hold their treats.

We had a great RED RIBBON WEEK. The kids showed a lot of school spirit as many of them participated in the special dress up days and most parents paid attention and followed directions, thank you. In addition, we learned about our bodies being the temple of the Holy Spirit in chapel and that it was our responsibility to take care of them and keep them healthy. This tied in very well to Red Ribbon Week. Finally, today we have visitors from the Junior Orange Bowl committee who did a fun presentation to the kids about their art contest, which also follows the theme of being healthy. Thank you to the PTL for all of the goodies and to Mr. Arenas for arranging for our special visitors.

I hope that many of our kids participate in this contest. This is something that you will work on at home, however, if you bring the entries to school prior to the deadline, we will deliver them all together. The deadline to submit all posters is November 22 so we will need them back here no later than Monday, November 20th. Information and Instructions for this contest are included as well as the entry form.

Girls and Boys JV and Varsity Basketball tryouts are rescheduled for next week

All students who expressed an interest in trying out for a basketball team were given an interest form. This interest form must be returned in advance of tryouts. Only students who return an interest form signed by a parent will be permitted to tryout. This interest forms indicates your willingness for your child to participate in basketball and all that is involved, including practices and providing transportation to all games on Saturdays.

Both boys and girls will try out on WEDNESDAY.

Elementary Sign Language Tryouts Grades 2 thru 5

If you wish for your child to be part of the elementary sign language group, please email or send a note to school to Mrs. St. Vil.

Please be aware that students must exhibit the ability to listen and follow direction, be in good behavioral standing and must attend scheduled practices and performances.

Tryouts will be on Monday, October 30th from 3:15 to 4:15PM in the church. If you are not here to pick your child up at 4:15, he or she will be sent to OOS.

Cosplay Club is coming soon!

There will be an interest meeting on November 2nd for students in 5th through 8th grade and their parent or guardian who are interested in being a part of our all new COSPLAY club, presented by our very talented Matthew Harden. This club is limited to 15 participants and will conflict with athletic practice so it probably will not work for any student who is playing basketball, kick-ball or track. There will be a one time fee that will include some start-up materials. Please plan this into your schedule if your son or daughter is interested. Flyers are included below, as well as a photo of Mr. Harden and I with his most recent Cosplay creation.

Cold Weather Jacket and Sweater Policy

If you review our dress code, you will see that students in K through 8th grade may wear sweaters and jackets that are SOLID COLORED Navy, Black, White or Gray ONLY. If your child does not have such a sweater or jacket, please obtain one over the weekend.

Or if you prefer, you can order a sweatshirt from Sunshine. My understanding is that these are now in stock and are shipping.

Sweatpants ARE NOT part of school uniform. They may be worn to school ON PE DAYS ONLY if the weather is cold. Every student should have a pair of long pants.

Girls may wear tights to school ON COLD DAYS under their jumpers or skorts.

A cold day is defined as temperature below 60 degrees before school. However, please keep an eye of the weather prediction because it can quickly heat up to high 70's and then your child may get too hot.
