School Counselor Update

Highland High School- April 2021

State SAT Testing- ALL Juniors-April 13th

ALL HHS Juniors must report in person on April 13th at 7:30am for the State Mandated SAT test.

This is a graduation requirement.

Room assignments are posted on the School Counseling Office Windows. Students should have completed a pre-bubble in with demographic information and selected up to 4 colleges to send their score report.

All other students have a college/career day.

Illinois State Science Assessment- ISA- Juniors

Testing will occur on April 29th.

This is a computer based science test.

Junior testing will occur in the science hallway. Seniors will not attend school- they have a college/ career day. Freshman and Sophomores will attend the regular school day (Red hours: 1, 2, 6 and 7).

The ISA aligns with our new Illinois Learning Standards in science. This assessment helps families understand how well students are performing academically and see whether they are on track to succeed in college. The ISA represents Illinois’ commitment to preparing all students for college and careers, including in the high-demand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. The assessment also satisfies federal accountability requirements.

Senior Decision Day- Education, Employment, Enlistment- April 30th

Help us celebrate everyone's future plans- career, college, academic, athletic, apprenticeships, enlistment or employment! There will be photo opportunities at school so wear your college t-shirt, bring your American flag, army boots, hard hat or whatever you can find to creatively announce your plans on April 30th. We are so proud of you and want to celebrate.

Photos can also be emailed to Mr. Houchins- prior to be posted on our schools facebook page. Share your own on social media and use #CollegeSigningDay

Senior Exit Meetings

Seniors can request FREE final transcripts through their parchment accounts until July 31. Beginning August 1 they will be charged a nominal fee.

School Counselors will meet with Seniors the end of April to complete their exit interview surveys. At this meeting seniors report plans for after high school and request final transcripts. Information will also be "assigned" in Google Classroom. Dual credit students will need to request SWIC and/or SLU transcripts directly from them as well.

Any remote student who wishes to have a Google Meet needs to reach out to their counselor for an appointment.

Thousands of scholarship dollars are awarded in April and May. Winners are reminded to take a minute to hand write a Thank You note to those scholarship committees and sponsors. HHS students are extremely lucky to have a supportive community that values the diversity in our student population- there is money available to everyone. If you need help on what to write please email your school counselor.
