Be Prepared!
With the constant fluid changing guidelines that our world is experiencing, we recommend that you have a Plan A, B, C, and D when it comes to your children's education and childcare. Please be thinking and planning for if and when our state and school district needs to make changes to our Re-Opening Plan or Remote Learning Plan within a 24 hour time period.
New School District Owned Bus
Hollis School now has its own district-owned bus. Please see the website or attachments below for pick up and drop off times. Students who ride the bus will be symptom checked before boarding. All parents must stay with their child until the symptom check is passed to start this year. Bus times are always approximate and the schedule will change based on the number of students who ride daily.
Snacks/Birthday Treats
All snacks and birthday treats will have to be individually pre-packaged. Please contact your child's teacher with questions. No more home made snacks or treats are allowed at school. Please see the school handbook for more clarification.
Parents/Visitors
All visitors/parents will wait outside for your child if there is a need to pick up early from school for an appointment. If the need to come in the building arises, the parent/visitor will have to pass a symptom check, wear a mask, and follow social distancing guidelines.
Baseball Team
8th Graders: Brendan Bacon, Sutton Brown, Katelyn Cassidy, Gabe Johnson, Jackson Manley, and Hayden VanTine. 7th Graders: Grayce Beran, Dylan Carson, Brody Metz. 6th Graders: Chance Rutherford, and Mia Smith. 5th graders: Brock Filyaw, Nathan Hatterman, Connor Sheckler, and Rylan VanTine
Coaches: Eric Van Tine and Kara Smith
Lanyards/Badges
After the first day of school, your child will come home with a lanyard and badge that will be required each day to assist the speed of symptom checking. Wearing the lanyard is part of their school uniform. The lanyard contains a badge that provides proof that the student's parent or guardian certifies that he or she is symptom-free. Each student and staff member will wear their lanyard daily if having no symptoms, feeling well, and having their temperature checked.
Digital Communication
Most communication will be digital this year through a wide variety of platforms. If you are not receiving school-wide text messages and emails through Blackboard, please call the office. Please check emails often and make sure your contact information is current if and when it changes. We communicate through our website, Blackboard, and various social media outlets. Please contact your child's teacher if you prefer hard copies for any classroom assignments, and/or communication. Remote learners will have pick up times for hard copies and Chromebooks on Fridays.
Symptom Checks
Students and Staff will go through a symptom screener daily. The list of symptoms includes fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, the new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, or vomiting, and diarrhea. These symptom checks will take place in the parking lot before students enter the building or outside before students board the bus.
Arrival/Departure
When dropping off your students for school in the morning, go to the tent in the front parking lot to pass your symptom check and follow the direction of staff members who will be directing both car and people traffic. Plan on an extra 15 minutes for dropping off in the morning. Latchkey will be dropped off and picked up in the back of the school along with the bus drop off in the back of the building. All car riders need to stay in their car or in front of their car after school. When all students are in their cars safely, dismissal of the parking lot begins.
Social Work/Speech Pathology
Both services are offered at Hollis and this year's speech teacher will be Mrs. Katie Vaughan and this year's social worker will be Mrs. Farrah Palmer. Speech will be offered on Wednesdays and Social Work will be offered on Fridays.
Tech Tuesdays
Tutoring is available to teach students and parents how to use technology in education in a variety of ways. Email Mrs. Carol Benson-O'Connor at cboconnor@hollis328.net if you are interested in her help!
Enhanced Cleaning
Our custodians will be working hourly to make sure all touchpoints of our building are sanitized and disinfected. The district will also be using a third party cleaning service after the students and staff go home each day. We have purchased an excess of cleaning supplies to assist in keeping the outside and inside as clean as possible.
Pick up After school
Please no hovering on the sidewalk after school in the front parking lot. All parents and guardians who are picking up have to stay inside or in front of their cars. Teachers will walk out the youngest grades to get them to your car safely. We all need to model and practice social distancing for our students.
