Message from the Leadership Team.
Thank you for all your help in encouraging your students to attend the guest speaker, “The Cuban Guy”, event at Lorenzo Walker Technical College. We heard a lot of positive feedback and by all measures the night was a big success. There were a number of take-a-ways from last evening that we can “bring-back” to our sites and class rooms:
· Community: We talk a lot about creating a culture of community in our class rooms and programs and last night was an opportunity to build on this theme. There is strength in numbers and students saw firsthand that they are part of our larger adult ed community.
· Relevance: We know the importance of making learning relevant to the adult learner. All of us listening to the presentation were captivated because the message was relevant and relatable to its audience.
· Taking ownership of one’s learning/actions: We want students to “own” their learning and take actions that lead to success: attendance, participation, self-advocacy, setting goals, etc… A key message from last night: “Once you’ve mastered self-motivation, all things are possible” is one we can continue to stress in our class rooms.
Thanks again for your assistance and participation! Last evening was a success on many levels, but one of the most enjoyable aspects of the evening was simply sharing time with all of you and our terrific students from ALL evening sites: ESOL and ABE/GED!
