Message from Jeff and Yolanda
There was no better way to kick off Career and Technical Education month then with the 2018 Annual Fly-In, Cruise-in on Saturday. The wind and the cold did not keep people away and there was a steady crowd throughout the day. New to the event this year was Chick Fil-A, The Golden Gate Band Boosters, the Civil Air Patrol Cadets performing the National Anthem and Boy Scout Troop # 274 assisting with parking.
Of course, the event would not be possible without the planning committee, who under the leadership of Belynda Williams, Jack Izbicki and Tony Singleton, spent months organizing the event from securing sponsorships to reaching out to car clubs and aircraft owners to display their cars and planes. A huge thank you to Rick Ponton, Lionel L'Esperance, Geri Leonard, Darlene Crete, Jean Cardarelli, Sam Green, Armando Padilla, Chris Fowler, Ted Coine, Katie Sullivan and Diana Childs. The event would not have been possible with the Naples Airport. A huge thank you to Raul Estrada (Airport), Ryan Frost (Airport) and Ron Jefferson for their support and hard work. Also thank you to Kirk Jervis for printing the signage.
On Saturday, all their hard work paid off when at 5:30 a.m. volunteers from LWTC, LWTHS and Adult Education started arriving to prepare for the big day. Close to 200 volunteers were checked in by Diana Childs, Katie Sullivan, and Stephanie Scott and sent off to help park cars, serve pancakes, clean tables, pick up trash, etc. By 8:00 a.m., Lionel L'Esperance, Hunter Sayers, Ariel Pechokas, Rocko Meyers, Bill Dooley, Bruce Rutila, Joseph Martino, John Mazzarella and students were ready to direct traffic and park cars. Chef Geri, Chef Chris, Ana Bravo and students prepared pancakes and sausages to feed the hungry crowd; Eileen Schoenknecht, Bruce Peters and Lorie Mitchell kept the food line moving; and Rose Whippo and Pam Wilkin made sure there was plenty of coffee and juice. Wrapping utensils and making sure the food tent was kept clean Ray Smith and Marisol Fernandez.
At the ticket gate taking the $10.00 admissions fee was Nancy Turmelle, Angie Imbriale, Jill Peterson, Bruce Peters and Khris Betten-Jutasi. Tony Singleton and Ken Cox check in the planes. Tim Hall, John Mazzarella, Kim Chinery, Christine Briggs, Paul Holimon, Ted Coine, Olivia Ralston, Charles Greaves assisted wherever there was a need. Manning the Student Services table throughout the day were Deb Young, Lynne Bedrava, and Scott Schnappauf. Sam Green was stationed at Command Central and made sure volunteers had appropriate supplies to do their job. Selling drinks, snow cones or promoting clubs were Neil Fehr, Cindy Emanual, Dulcie Neiman, Cheree Jones-Diver, Other volunteers, included: Jonah Nicosia, Mark Frehe, Anne Fredette, Shoshana, Beth Thomas, Jerry Soffin, parents, spouses and children of staff. A big shout out to Belynda's husband John who worked non- stop on Friday and Saturday transporting items to the event and helping set up.
Ricki Ponton, Marie Coleman, Jaime Hernandez and Rita Kentros captured memories in photos and videos while Ariel Pechokas showed the media around. We will make sure to share pictures as we get them. If we left off anyone out, we apologize in advance, as that was not our intent.
Thank you to all who helped make the event a successful one. Keep in mind that all funds go towards student scholarships. We look forward to next year.

Coaches' Corner - Interactive Strategy: Gallery Walks in the Classroom
Want to get your students up and walking around engaged with the content? Try a gallery walk. Gallery walks are a great opportunity for students to work together while analyzing a problem or evaluating a situation. If interested, there is a video embedded below to see the technique in action.
Use it for:
- Lab analysis-have students perform a lab and evaluate each other’s data.
- Distinguishing characteristics for time periods.
- Examine images, posters, projects or documents.
- Make correlations between ideas
The website http://www.theteachertoolkit.com/index.php/tool/gallery-walk gives the following suggestions for implementing it in your classroom:
1. Write
- Create six questions or prompts about the current topic of study, and write each one on a piece of chart paper or on a white board. Hang or place the questions or prompts in various places around the classroom to create six stations. Images, documents, problems, or quotes may also be used.
2. Group
- Group students into teams of three to five students, depending on the size of the class. Each group should start at a different station.
3. Begin
- At their first station, groups will read what is posted and one recorder should write the group’s responses, thoughts, and comments on the chart paper or white board. For individual student accountability, you may also have the students record their own responses on a worksheet.
4. Rotate
- After three to five minutes, have the groups rotate to the next station. Students read and discuss the previous group’s response and add content of their own. Repeat until all groups have visited each station. To involve all group members, you can have groups switch recorders at each station.
5. Monitor
- As the teacher, it is important to monitor the stations while the students participate. You may also need to clarify or provide hints if students don't understand or misinterpret what is posted at their station.
6. Reflect
- Have students go back to their first station to read all that was added to their first response. Bring the class back together to discuss what was learned and make final conclusions about what they saw and discussed.
