Welcome Back to School
One School, One Community
Happy September Cougar families! We hope the transition to the new school year has been a good one for you. Our staff has loved welcoming your children back and the smiles around the school are just contagious. Thank you for sharing your children with us and we know it is going to be a great year!
This year we will be purposeful, inclusive, and articulate while we frame the year with One School, One Community. Cold Spring is a special place that feels rather traditional, as many students walk to school daily with their families or ride their bikes. We have a strong sense of community and high engagement all around. We are also special because we welcome fourth and fifth grade students from other elementary schools for the Center for Enriched Studies in which students experience a literacy curriculum designed for the highly gifted learner. At times in the past, this has created a school culture that feels like two schools within one. While the curriculum is unique to the students who are in the Center for Enriched Studies, many of our students, kindergarten through fifth grade, are highly able and demonstrate gifted profiles. Our staff recognizes this and we understand it is our job as educators to meet students where they are in order to move them forward. Our Cold Spring staff is thoughtful about lesson planning and we are confident your child with not only grow this year, but experience daily rich and meaningful lessons, gain exposure to complex concepts and topics, demonstrate productive struggle, and practice perseverance and resilience.
Our Approach
This year we will strive to ensure all students feel a sense of home and belonging at Cold Spring. Our staff is committed to fostering this connection. We will utilize a departmentalization model in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in which students will move through different content and different teachers throughout the day. We know this will help our students foster strong relationships with peers and staff members and bring to life One School, One Community.
Giving Thanks
We want to thank our amazing PTA for supporting our transition back to school. Our staff certainly feel the love. The PTA has provided popsicles to students, lunch and dinner for our staff, and our September staff lounge has already been stocked with goodies. We can't thank you enough for showing us such appreciation. Your partnership is incredible!
