Read-A-Thon at Lakeview is over

Thank you to everyone who has participated and helped with our school fundraiser! Especially thank you to all of you who have donated on behalf of your favorite students at Lakeview! The read-a-thon will close later this evening. At that point, students will be able to go on and choose their prizes from the online store. Prizes should be delivered by the time we return from spring break. Thanks again to all our supporters!

PTA!

The next PTA meeting is April 10th at 2:00 p.m. We are looking for people who would like to be on the board next year or chair a committee. PTA is a great way to be involved.

Russian Spring Festival on April 11 in the Lakeview Gym

In ancient Russia, villagers would have an annual festival to get the birds to come back after the long Russian winter, believing that the birds would bring Spring with them on their return. The villagers would sing songs about birds, tie treats for the birds around fence posts, and even paint themselves to look like birds.

To help bring back Spring, we are going to have a festival of our own. All are invited!

Thursday, April 11

3:30 - 4:30 in the Lakeview Gym

There will be pine cone bird-feeder making, face painting, and singing games. We are also looking for donations of the following:

• Cheerios

• Crisco

• Pine cones

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. McKinney at loganm@provo.edu.

March reading bookmark

Parents,

Road to Success has been difficult for many students to log their minutes on the computer. Included in this newsletter is a bookmark that students may record their minutes on if they would like (you will need to print the bookmark). If students read 20 days, they may bring their bookmark to the library at the end of the month to get a prize. If Road to Success is working for you, please continue to use it. Road to Success has provided prizes for me to give out to those participating. If your child would like to be involved in other reading programs at the school, please visit my class web page. There are 5 other reading programs available.

Thank you,

Mrs. Hansen

Safe Utah App

Dear Parents,

Many of you may have heard about the SafeUT App that has been highlighted in the news and is currently being used in our secondary schools. This free app will now be available to students and their families at Lakeview and has two main functions:

1) Get help 24/7 during a crisis (call/text)

2) Report safety concerns to your school (violence, drugs, bullying, etc.)
- Personnel at the school are notified of the concern via email to investigate the issue.

During the next couple weeks all 4th, 5th and 6th grade students at Lakeview will be given a presentation on how to use the SafeUT App.

Attached is a short video explaining how it works and a link to a website with more information.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OcT0gaJR7c

https://healthcare.utah.edu/uni/safe-ut/

We hope this will provide another means for students to get help and a safe, anonymous way to report concerns at the school. If you have any questions please contact our social worker, Chris Miller, at the school or by email at chrism@provo.edu.

Thank you!
