Meet Mrs. Maul

In August of 1980, Mrs. Maul, CRC's fourth grade teacher, had the honor of representing the United States in the first-ever World Baton Twirling Championships. The competition, held in Seattle, WA, was attended by ten different countries that year. Mrs. Maul, who was 16 at the time, won the bronze medal (3rd place). She began twirling when she was 4 years old. Her mother had a baton and dance studio, so she learned all about the sport from a very young age. Throughout her competitive career, Mrs. Maul won many State, Regional and National titles. She also twirled on teams that won many awards too. Today, Mrs. Maul judges many competitions. She has her international certification though she usually judges in the USA. She recently judged in Colorado and judged the National Championships in Ohio last summer. Her sister coaches the Valley Baton Club in San Jose and Mrs. Maul often guest coaches there if she is visiting. "I love baton twirling. It will always be a part of my life. Participating in a sport taught me so many skills like discipline, time management, and sportsmanship," says Mrs. Maul. "I hope I can twirl for the entire school very soon!"
