From the Principal
Dear Graham Families,
Please make sure your email, phone number and home address are correct in our computer system. We will be sending out important information this summer regarding your student's teacher and information you will need for the beginning of the new school year.
Covid numbers appear to be rising in some schools in Michigan. While Graham has had only a slight rise, please make sure you are monitoring your child and watching for symptoms. If they test positive, they must isolate at home for 5 days. Please read the Oakland County Guidelines listed below in the newsletter.
There are only 14 school days left this year! Please encourage your children to stay focused and finish out the school year strong.
We are in need of parent volunteers to help with popcorn making on Friday mornings. Please call the office if you are available to help. Thank you!
Remember, it takes a village to raise our children. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Tony O. Harris

2022-2023 Calendar Update
2022-2023 Student Placement
It is difficult to believe, but we are already making plans for the end of the school year and next year. Each year, the staff at Graham spends many hours and takes special care assigning students to their next year’s classes. In performing this task, many factors are taken into account, from governmental guidelines to social and academic considerations. The factors involved in this process are as follows:
- Balance of male and female students
- A range of reading, writing, and math abilities in each room
- Consideration of learning needs
- Separation of behavior conflicts
- Balance of students with strong leadership qualities
- Balance of students with independent study habits
In analyzing all these factors, we strive to develop balanced classrooms, which will be minimally affected by the addition of new students as they move into our area.
Please DO NOT request placement or non-placement with a specific teacher as I will likely be making grade-level staffing changes for next year. Parents should not be concerned with teacher placement or non-placement based on what they may have heard about a teacher from other parents. Just as each child is unique, so is each teacher. An experience that other parents may have had with their child may be totally different from what your child could have with the same teacher. Finally, please remember that some staff members may retire, transfer and/or change grade levels prior to school opening in August. If so, while the room designation will not change, the teacher assignment may. Lack of such a written request will have no effect on the care given to each child’s placement.
Please help your child understand that he/she may not be with the same friends next year, or with a teacher a sibling may have had. Help them know they are capable of working with new friends and teachers, that they are skillful youngsters, and able to handle new situations. It will help ensure a smooth transition. We value your help and appreciate your consideration.
Next year's placement notifications will be emailed to you in mid-to-late August.

Parent Pick up
In order for the parent pick-up line to run as safely and efficiently as possible, we ask that you please stay in your car and move down to the furthest possible spot to pick-up your child. This will allow for the maximum amount of cars to pick up at the same time and will help for a smooth, quick transition. Staff is on hand to help direct traffic and keep the students safe. Please be respectful and look to them for direction.
If you need to get out of your car to assist your child or if you would like to meet them at the door, please park in the parking lot, cross at the crosswalk and meet them on the sidewalk.
Thank you for your understanding. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Medication/Illness
Medication must be kept in the office. Students must have documentation signed by a doctor on file in order for medication to be administered at school. Over the counter medication cannot be administered to students without a note from a doctor as well.
If your child is sick (fever, vomiting, covid-symptoms), please do not send them to school. We diligently try to prevent the spread of illness. If your child goes home from school sick with a fever (100+), they must be fever-free without fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours before returning to school. This standard is set by the Oakland County Health department.
