Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 17th July 2020
All the best Class of 2020
Class of 2020
Mrs McCormick presented the children with their hoodies, USB sticks full of photo memories, and certificates which included some lovely comments about the children.
We then moved to the school hall and sat on socially distanced chairs to watch some special films that featured some of the children's memories and pictures from across the years. We have uploaded some of these videos so that our whole school family can see them (links below).
Finally we returned to the field to enjoy a piece of the amazing cake made by Mrs Wright which featured golden stars with the names of every child.
It was a wonderful afternoon and it was great to have the vast majority of the cohort back together.
All the best Class of 2020. We will miss you!

Dear Parents and Carers
This year has been one of the strangest and most challenging in education and I am sure that the impact of coronavirus will linger on for quite a period. However, as we come to a close of this academic year I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to pupils, staff, governors, parents and carers. The support we have received throughout the year has been tremendous.
We have worked on our plans for September 2020 based on the guidance issued by the government. An overview of our risk assessment can be accessed by clicking on the button below. This document provides information about the measures in place, along with timings for school and the answers to frequently asked questions. If there is a change in the national situation and government guidance, plans will be reviewed and communicated accordingly.
As I look back on all the updates since September, there has been so much achieved despite the many challenges that we all have faced. Thank you for all the pictures, messages, updates, emails and notes of encouragement that we have received. I know staff have really appreciated the help from everyone in our school family.
This week we said goodbye to our Year 6s. They have been such a wonderful group to have around over the last half term and have made the most of the opportunities given to them in their last few weeks at primary school. We are proud of each individual and wish them all the best as they move onto their new schools.
Thanks to the Friends of the School. As always, come rain or shine, or even global pandemic, they have continued with their sterling work (even online) to help raise funds for the school. THANK YOU!
Have a wonderful, blessed, restful summer break.

A message from Public Health England
A massive thank you to all parents and carers for the support that has been given for nasal and oral swabbing. PHE, I know are very grateful for the help. We are one of only 89 schools in the country that has been part of the study (called the sKID study) and the information gathered will help support PHE's work in the autumn.
To complete analysis, the Public Health England team requires input from all parents/guardians of children at our school. All parents/guardians, including those not participating in sKID, are invited to complete this very short questionnaire. All the information provided will be treated as confidential and anonymised, and will be received directly by the PHE team. Please complete only one questionnaire per household.

Many thanks

Oscar's Breakfast and After School Club
First, just a quick announcement - Oscar's holiday club is officially full for all the three weeks we are offering! Thanks to all parents who have booked the club. Please make sure you do not come to school if you have not reserved a place as the staff will not be able to accommodate your child.
Plans are in place for opening Oscar's breakfast and after school club back up again in the autumn term. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, it will have a slightly different look and location (the school hall), but the hours and cost will remain the same! A letter with full details will be emailed home soon and information posted on the school website.
Friends of Ripon Cathedral School
The school is blessed to have a dedicated team of parents who organise so many events to fundraise and bring our school family together. This year their action packed calendar was brought to an abrupt halt, like so many, and we have missed out on the duck race and summer fair plus a couple of discos.
One parent has gone above and beyond to bring events to our community despite the fact large social gatherings have been impossible. A huge thanks to Lily from the school. Her fellow committee members showed their appreciation with this lovely bouquet. Thank you to them all!

Summer Reading Challenge
Have fun and get silly with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge - it’s all online!
Silly Squad, the 2020 Summer Reading Challenge, is set in a fun house and this year is all about funny books, happiness and having a laugh!
The challenge started earlier than normal this year, on 5th June, but you can sign up online right through to September at sillysquad.org.uk and find heaps of super silly activities, quizzes, videos, games, a place to keep track of your books and rewards to unlock along the way.
The challenge is aimed at all children from 4 to 11 who just need to read anything that makes them happy - whether it be a comic, joke book, poetry, fiction or non-fiction, in digital or print format, an e-book borrowed from the library or a something they already have at home.
North Yorkshire Libraries are still closed so we cannot offer the usual printed materials but we have a terrific selection of children’s’ eBooks and eAudiobooks available to download for free at www.northyorks.gov.uk/digitallibrary . You’ll need your library card and PIN to download them but it’s no problem if you are not a member - just call call 01609 533878 to join.
Please also keep a look out on your local library Facebook page and the North Yorkshire Libraries Facebook page (@nycclibraries) for special Silly Squad activities and reading recommendations.
