December happening
December happenings in 7th grade science
We had the Load A Bus campaign that finished yesterday. JMS collected over 1,000 lbs. of canned foods. The 7th grade collected over 400lbs to win the contest for popcorn and free tutorial period which will happen Monday, December 16th. Way to go guys! A special thanks to Mr. Paul Mullins (grocery manager) and Wal-Mart for their donation to help us purchase canned foods. It is for a good cause and families will be provided for. Merry Christmas!
Finishing the 3rd six weeks, upcoming projects
The students did great on their space accommodations projects. I loved the space diaper. Some students also found "space food" at Hobby Lobby and brought us some freeze dried ice cream to try. It was very interesting.
We are in a new project now doing research for biomes of the world. The students are having to find objects that they think would be appropriate for a museum. They will be finding organisms or information that will be worth sharing with others. They haven't received their rubric yet and will get that after the break. It will last about 2 weeks and they will be presenting their information. All parents are always invited to come and sit in for the presentations. Just make sure and check in at the front office.

This "spider man" suit could replace the 300 lb suit of today!
Science Fair 2014
We also have introduced our science fair for this year. The date we have reserved is May 22nd, 2014. It will be in the JMS cafeteria. The students will be working on this project mostly outside of class. They will be responsible for all parts of the project individually. We will break it up into different due dates so that they won't be able to wait until the last minute. This will also be our 2nd semester final grade for science. They are pretty excited and I can't wait until they begin their research. The students will be required to get each rubric approved by their parents so that the parents are also on board with the project that they are doing and you will know the status of it as they are progressing.
