In 1964, in Spokane, Washington, David Shannon wrote and illustrated his first book, No David!, because he knew he would be an artist when he grew up.

Summary of my Author's Life

David Shannon grew up in Spokane, Washington. The biggest hardship he faced as a child was always getting into trouble. What inspired him to write and illustrate was the book How Many Spots Does a Leopard Have?, his personal life, and his childhood. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife and daughter.

Summary of my Synthesized Information

Theme: I think David Shannon’s overall theme is, Don't let other people tell you what to do, because in the book a bad case of stripes the theme was, “Don't let people control you” the theme of Good Boy, Fergus was, “You don't have to be good as long as you listen” and the theme of Jangles was, “Courageousness and witty always beat the quick to decide and uncareful” this is why I think David Shannon’s overall theme is, Don't let other people tell you what to do.

Writing Style: I think David Shannon’s writing style is short and snappy sentences because his main audience is children and they can't comprehend long detailed sentences. In the book Good Boy, Fergus almost all of the sentences are short and stoppy. These are a few of the reasons I believe the writing style of David Shannon is short, snappy and not detailed.
