About the Course

This course is an introduction to classical Hahnemannian homeopathy, which introduces the student to the history and basic tenets of homeopathy as outlined by Samuel Hahnemann in his writings the Organon of Medicine. The goal of this course is to provide the student with a foundation of knowledge about homeopathy and the ability to recognize situations in which homeopathy might be beneficial.

About the Instructors

Stephen A Messer, ND, DHANP

Professor/Chair of Homeopathic Medicine

B.S., The City College of the City University of New York, MSEd, University of Pennsylvania; N.D., National College of Naturopathic Medicine. DHANP, Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians. Dr. Messer was in private naturopathic practice in Eugene, OR. From 1979-2000 when he relocated to AZ to take up the newly funded Dolisos Chair of Homeopathic Medicine at SCNM. He is one of the founders, past board member and president of the Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians. He has served since 1987 as a board member and officer of the National Center for Homeopathy and 1993-2003, as the Dean of the prestigious NCH Summer School program. From 2002 until 2006, he also served as Director of the Naturopathic Therapeutics Division at SCNM.

Elizabeth Rice, ND

A member of the Arizona Natural Health Center Cancer Care team, Dr. Elizabeth Rice has a passion for the homeopathic and natural treatment of cancer. Dr. Rice graduated from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM) in Tempe, Arizona. Following medical school, Dr. Rice completed a one-year general medicine residency and a subsequent second-year specialty residency in homeopathy. Dr. Rice attended UC Santa Barbara for her undergraduate degree, where she studied Spanish and Global Studies. Her fluency in Spanish allows her to offer care to a wider range of the Valley’s diverse population. Dr. Rice teaches Introduction to Alternative Medicine and Introduction to Homeopathy at Phoenix Community College. She is also a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. In her spare time, Dr. Rice volunteers at the Gilbert Fire Department, where her husband is a Captain. She enjoys practicing yoga (she was an instructor for several years), swimming, hiking, traveling, and creating new green smoothies.
