Weekly Happenings in Miss Quaresima's First Grade Class
Week of April 22 - 26, 2013
Welcome to the new edition of our classroom newsletter! Just like my weekly emails, our newsletter will share what we are learning in first grade and special events happening at Titus. Each week, I will send an email with the link to our newsletter, similar to the Tiger Times.
If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for what you would like to see included in our newsletter, please contact me at email@example.com.
Gym on Tuesday - Don't forget your sneakers!!
Library on Wednesday - Please return all library books to school on time!
School Supplies - Some of our school supplies are beginning to run out. Please talk to your child to see if they need new supplies. Most children have been running out of glue sticks, dry erase markers, and crayons.
In School this Week...
The Word Wall is a great writing tool in our classroom. I do not expect the students to memorize each word wall word, but they do need to be aware that the words are on the wall, so they can use them as a reference when writing in the classroom.
This week's word wall words are: done, people, would, keep, some.
For the remainder of the year, our weekly word wall words will be included on our Friday spelling tests. The words will always be available on the wall; the children will need to locate them and spell them correctly. Please practice these words at home with your child.
This week’s spelling words are: fast, had, jog, drop, box, sock.
The challenge words are: grass, has.
Please practice these words at home with your child. There will be a spelling test on Friday!!
In reading this week, we are reading the story Something From Nothing. We will discuss how good readers pay attention to what the author says about the characters. We will watch as the characters grow in the story, and will make connections to our own family relationships, just like Joseph and his grandfather’s relationship. While reading we will identify and practice R-controlled vowels; possessive words using apostrophe – s; and proper nouns.
In math this week, we will continue our study of fractions as we discuss how to share equally with others. We will also practice identifying the fractions 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4.
We will also be reviewing for our unit 8 math test, which will be on Friday, April 26th.
In the Computer Lab...

- change the color of words
- change the size of words
- use the highlighting tool
