Young Adult Ministry Idea | A Little Slip of Heaven

Big picture

Christopher Shannon, a Rochester native and current Associate Professor of History specializing in American Catholic history at Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia, offers a presentation entitled, "A Little Slip of Heaven: Songs and Stories of the American Irish, from Baby Boom to Baby Bust." It tells the story of the Irish American Catholics in the decades following the Second World War. Through original songs based on traditional Irish melodies, Chris looks at how, in a time of tremendous change, Irish-Americans tried to remain true to their ethnic and religious culture rooted in urban, working-class neighborhoods. Though he deals with the topic in as broad as possible terms, many of the songs are based on Chris's experiences growing up in the Tenth Ward and Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester. This presentation works well for young adult gatherings. If you would like to learn more about bringing Chris to your next young adult gathering, contact Mark here.
