Learning Without Walls
4th Grade
Second Week Complete!
Our blog has been updated! Please go check it out!
This past week in Language Arts we reviewed Noun, Verbs, and Adjectives. This may seem like a simple skill, but it is a skill we review that leads into our writing projects. We created our own silly sentences and then made sure we were able to pick parts of speech out of sentences. One of our first TEEKS is characterization of characters. We worked a lot on this. We read stories and picked out characters to create bubble maps over. We worked on not using "boring" words, but on using 4th grade vocabulary. We also extended this and worked together with 3rd and 5th to create GoodBooks about a specific character from the book "Thank you Mr Falker."
We also discussed different genres and will continue that this week along with the main idea of stories.
We will also begin writing starting tomorrow. Our first piece will focus on personal narrative. This will be taught with lots of modeling.
In math we have continued to cover place value. We have worked on greater than and less than. Standard, expanded, and written form. This week we will begin rounding of large numbers up to a billion. We will begin math stations as well that all for students to work at their own pace. This will allow for challenges from students who want to go about a beyond.
In Science our first TEEK is over life cycles. We began this week with talking about producers and consumers and their role in the life cycle. We also discussed carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores through a activity called survival of the fittest.
In Social Studies we are talking about and researching the Texas Regions. I called this activity Texas Crack Up. If Texas was to crack up what region would you want to live in? After learning about this, we worked with iPads to create videos persuading the class what region is best to live in and why? The learners loved this and the end results were incredible!
I am excited to learn even more this week with your learners!
