Mission & Vision Statements

The Veterans Memorial High School Library is a welcoming place for students, teachers, and parents to find books and resources that foster a life-long love of reading and learning.

The VMHS Library will offer innovative instruction, offer a free-flowing space, and engaging programming that creates the next generation of leaders.

Take & Make December Challenge

Take a plain white mask, provided by your VMHS librarian, and decorate it for Christmas! Get creative! You may use any material that will stay on the mask; paint, markers, glitter, jingle bells, garland, whatever! You can even tie-die the mask! The deadline to turn in is December 16th!

The masks should be available to "take" beginning December 7th.

The top 3 winners will get a Chick-Fil-A gift card! (only one teacher winner!)

Thanks to Josh Cunningham of Rolling Oaks Mall for donating the gift cards!

Holiday Stacks

Holiday stacks have arrived at VMHS! Want some reading recommendations for Christmas break? Simply fill out the form below before Tuesday, December 15th, and Mrs. Thompson will try to match you with some good reads from our collection. We will send an email when your order is ready for pickup. All who request a stack will also be entered into a drawing for some holiday treats.

Holiday Stack Request Form

Patriot Page-Turner

Do you want to be our next Patriot Page-Turner? We want you to be our next Patriot Page-Turner! Please complete this FORM to be considered for the upcoming months, and if you don't feel ready because you haven't read a YA book in a while, get a holiday stack to catch up!

Teachers, including those of you that live outside of Bexar County, may access the San Antonio Public Library through our JISD Sora app. HERE are the directions. All of the books that I recommend are available on Sora, usually in e-Book and audiobook formats.

Learning Ally

Learning Ally offers audiobooks for students with reading deficits. Many of our special education students and dyslexia students already have an account, but they are not the only students who can qualify to use LA. If you have a student that is reading below grade level, has a visual impairment, a physical impairment that prohibits or makes holding a physical book difficult, or has attention deficit, they can qualify. The best part is, if you have ONE student that qualifies, you may use the audiobooks with your entire class!

If you would like to be an educator on LA, just send me an email. Educators may add students, check students who already have an account, and assign books.

Below are examples of textbooks and required reading that may be found on LA. There are many, many more, including books students may read for pleasure!

JISD Book Clubs

Join us for our next BYOBook adult book club on Monday, December 28th at 7:00 P.M.We will be reading Ruta Sepetys book, The Fountains of Silence.

Our YA book club will meet on Tuesday, January 19th. We will be reading The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton.

Both titles are available from SAPL on our Sora app in both e-book and audiobook formats.
