Spooky Special Edition - Halloween Update
It's October, and that means it is time to start planning for our annual Halloween festivities! Things may look a little different this year, but we still plan to have fun in a safe way! Here's how!
HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES - OCTOBER 29
COSTUMES
Students should come to school on October 29 dressed in as much of their Halloween costumes as possible. Students will not be able to change into costumes in the restroom, so please make sure costumes are minimal this year. Students will be able to slip on simple add-ons over the basic parts of their costumes. These additional items should be small enough to fit in a bag and be able to be put on easily in the classroom. Please remember that students will be learning as usual for most of the day, so costumes need to accommodate sitting at desks and doing school work. Costume masks may not be worn in class.
PARADE
We will have our school Halloween parade on October 29 at 1:45 pm. Students will walk the parade route socially distanced and will not walk with buddies. Due to COVID-19, parents and other guests will not be permitted to attend the parade this year. The parade will be live streamed and the link will be provided as we get closer.
PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST AND GAMES
A pumpkin decorating contest will be held the week of October 26. Pumpkin contest entries may be dropped off at school on October 27 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm by the Jesus Statue. Pumpkins will be displayed and students will vote during the week. Winners will be announced on October 29. The categories include: people's choice (to be voted on by students), spookiest, prettiest, cutest, best character(s), best carved, funniest, most creative, most team spirit, best painted, and gross out. Fr. Steve, Fr. Matt, Mrs. Woodman, and Mrs. Alexander will judge the other categories. There will be winners in grades K-3 and 4-8 for each category. Every entry will need a form when dropped off (see form below). Every pumpkin entry will receive at least an honorable mention ribbon, with trophies awarded for category winners. For even more fun, students will participate in games in their classrooms. Two ribbons per class will be awarded for games.
UPDATE! ADDITIONAL PUMPKIN CONTEST DETAILS ADDED OCTOBER 8!
Pumpkin Contest Drop-Off: October 27 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Please drop off decorated pumpkins and contest entry form (see below) by the Jesus Statue. Students entering pumpkins in the contest will receive a participation certificate and a Halloween-themed bracelet to wear on October 29 to show their participation in the contest.
Pumpkin Contest Pick-Up: October 30 as students are dismissed. An area will be set up near the junior high doors so students can pick up their pumpkins as they go to the car line for dismissal. For your child's safety, if he or she will be bringing home a pumpkin, please plan for a car ride on October 30 or ask a friend to bring the pumpkin home to avoid pumpkins being carried onto buses.
WE'LL SEE YOU AT FALL FEST NEXT YEAR!
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our October 17 Fall Fest, but we can't wait to see you at Fall Fest next year!
GRADE 3 ALL SAINTS DAY - OCTOBER 30
Third graders will celebrate All Saints Day on October 30. Third graders should wear their saint costumes to school. Again, these should be simple as students will not be able to change clothes and will need to sit at desks with costumes on for the remainder of the day. The entire third grade class will attend Mass in person at 9:30 am. Parents may attend and sit socially distanced in the back of the church. Immediately following Mass, third graders will remain in the church for the traditional "Guess the Saints" activity. Both Mass and the "Guess the Saints" activity will be live streamed. Please watch for more information.
