Bobcat Connection
Learning. Growing. Collaborating & Achieving @KrumHighSchool
February 26, 2018
Hello, KHS families.
Here is the Bobcat Connection for the upcoming week. We have two more weeks before the grading period ends. It's important that we stay the course to finish strong. If you would like a parent-teacher conference, please do not hesitate to contact us. We consider ourselves partners in our students' education.
We are proud to have Ms. Selma Johnson and the Guardians of the Children joining us on Wednesday to share an anti-bullying message with all of our students. If you do not want your student to participate, please email and let us know.
We look forward to seeing you at one of the many events next week. Good luck to all students representing KHS! Good Luck to One Act Play as they compete at their District Meet on Saturday! Thank you for your continued support.
Go BOBCATS!

Photography Contest
My name is Al Key. I am the Director of Photography for the Thin Line Film, Music & Photo Festival 2018 in Denton. I was a news photographer for the Denton Record-Chronicle for 30 years, and now have my own photography business based in Denton. We have a photo contest that is open to anyone. I have made five categories, and there is a $500 cash prize for the winner of each category.
We also have a strictly student category. Any high school or middle school in Denton County is eligible. Individual students or entire classes can enter. Denton Area Teachers Credit Union sponsors a program during our Festival known as The Young Artist Series. Student entries will be displayed at a gallery in the Golden Triangle Mall with their associated schools.
Last year, three Denton schools participated - Ryan High School, The Koan School and the Advanced Technology Center - along with Brookhaven College. We are hoping to grow our participation from more schools in Denton County this year. Our attendance has doubled in each of the last few years.
All student entries will be eligible for the $500 prize in each of the open categories. There will also be a competition between student-only entries. DATCU and Thin Line will host a program on Saturday, March 31, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the gallery inside the Golden Triangle Mall with all of the student entries gracing the walls of the gallery. First and second place will be awarded to student winners in each category. There will be food, drinks and live entertainment. Parents, teachers, friends and students are invited to attend and view all of the student entries. Last year we had around 100 entries on the walls.
There is a very affordable entry fee for students of $2.50 per single entry - or $10 for five submitted images by each individual student. Entry deadline for digital submission is February 28. To enter, or view categories and submission guidelines, go to thinline.us>submit>photography.
The Thin Line Festival runs April 18-22. It will offer films that have won awards at SxSW and Sundance Festivals. We also have over 40 musical acts (30 local- 10 national) at 5 different venues around Denton. And, we have photography from all across Texas & America- as well as some international entries- at 3 different venues (GT Mall & 2 downtown). The gallery at the GT Mall will stay open for several months with the student's images & Thin Line artwork.
If you have any questions, or wish to obtain further info, please contact me.
Regards, Al Key
