CWMS School Counselors
6th GRADE
The Signs of Suicide (SOS) curriculum was delivered to all 6th grade students on October 1-3 at Canal Winchester Middle School. The SOS Program is a school-based suicide prevention program. The overall goal of SOS is to prevent and reduce suicidal behavior by expanding the safety net for students experiencing mental and emotional distress.
ALL GRADE LEVELS:
The middle school counselors introduced themselves and their services during 6, 7, and 8th grade classroom presentations in September.
In November, Similar But Different, our student leadership organization, facilitated “Because I Said I Would" lessons to 6th and 7th grade students during connections. The lessons centered around the importance of making and keeping promises and personal integrity. To find out more information about the organization, please visit their website at https://becauseisaidiwould.org.
In order to support the American Heart Association, the middle school will again be hosting the annual staff versus student dodgeball game on Friday, December 20th benefiting the American Heart Association. Students need to raise $20.00 in order to participate and earn an American Heart Association shirt. This CWMS fundraiser raises an average of $1,200 each year for the American Heart Association to support research on cardiovascular disease and prevention.
Second Step (SEL) Program
ParenTeenConnect.org, a free website for parents and their teens created by the makers of the Second Step Program, is a great resource for middle school families. It provides expert advice and practical tools for dealing with real parent-teen issues.
At ParenTeenConnect.org, you can hear from real parents and teens about the issues that cause conflict in their lives—including screen time, independence, responsibility, and communication—and get expert advice. Visit ParenTeenConnect.org at home with your child, select a topic together, and get talking!
