EVENTS & UPDATES

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the purpose of this month is to reduce the stigma around mental health and create awareness of the different components of mental wellness. If you would like to talk more about any of the topics, please visit your school counselor.

This week we are bringing awareness to mental health by owning our feelings. It can be easy to get caught up in your emotions as you’re feeling them. Most people don’t think about what emotions they are dealing with, but taking the time to really identify what you’re feeling can help you to better cope with challenging situations. Click here for more information and resources.

FBISD Virtual Learning Program

Parents may apply now through May 14, 2021, for the District’s Virtual Learning Program (VLP) for students in pre-K-12 by accessing the application on the District’s website via Skyward Family Access.

Because the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority, the District’s virtual program will be for a small percentage of students who require continued online learning due to being at a higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Parents must submit an individual application for each student in their household. Parents whose children will return in-person to their home campus do not need to fill out an application.

Students’ healthcare providers must complete and sign the COVID-19 High Risk Exemption form, available here in English and in Spanish. The forms are also available on the Virtual Learning Program (VLP) webpage. Medical forms must be submitted by the student’s healthcare provider by fax directly to the FBISD Virtual Learning Program at 281-327-1075.

The medical exemption forms are due to FBISD by June 3, 2021.

Families will be notified of students’ acceptance in the program by June 17, 2021.

We have created a Virtual Learning Program webpage on the District’s site which includes an FAQ, detailed plan, forms, job aids with how-to instructions in English and Spanish, and other important information.

Credit Recovery & Summer School

In summer 2021, Fort Bend ISD will be offering a variety of in-person instructional opportunities for our secondary school students (6th – 12th grades). The Credit Recovery Program allows students to regain credit for previously failed courses by successfully completing coursework. In response to the needs of our students and families, all remedial instruction will be tuition-free. The parents of students failing a course as of May 11th AFTER Progress Reports will receive a warning letter issued from the SIS team in Skyward Family Access Student Portfolio. School counselors will inform parents of the registration process including attendance requirements for students and confirmation of their need to attend. All students must return a registration form to their grade level counselor to be enrolled in the remedial summer course by the counselors.

F2F Reminders

Our campus Wellness Monitors would like to remind all students to bring a reusable water bottle and an extra mask to school. Students can fill their water bottles up throughout the day and an extra mask is important in case their mask is lost, damaged, or becomes unusable during the school day.

Mentors Wanted

Sartartia Middle School is looking for a Few Good Mentors!

We would love any parent or community member to volunteer to be a mentor to one of our students next school year. If you are interested, please contact Ms. Friedel at katherine.friedel@fortbendisd.com.

Immunization Reminders

Attention all 6th Grade Parents! If you have not sent in an updated copy of your student's immunization record, please do so as soon as possible. We are looking for the TDAP and MCV immunizations, and many of our 6th graders may have received these required vaccines! The clinic staff does not work during the summer, and we would love to have your student compliant before the end of 6th grade. Please know, if we do not receive the updated records, your student will not be able to get their schedule or locker during summer jag camp. Please email the record to amy.schepanski@fortbendisd.com or fax to 281-327-6325. As always if you have any questions, feel free to call us at 281-634-6325.

Are you looking to play a sport or get involved in High School? Tennis is a lifelong sport, it is fun, great exercise and you can meet friends! You DID NOT have to make the middle school team in order to tryout or play in high school and we hope that we will see you on the tennis courts in the fall? If you would like to know more, email Coach Martinez or follow us on Twitter at: @TravisTennis

Why freshman should play during their 9th grade year:

  • They earn their PE credit because they take the Tennis PE Athletic class with Coach Martinez.
  • They get a year of tennis experience. If they come out as sophomores or juniors, the freshman who did play are usually ahead of them and have a better chance of playing.
  • If they have a drive to learn and get better, they can actually be pretty good tennis players.
  • They get to be apart of something right from the start, be part of a group, meet new friends and they learn time management skills needed to be successful in high school, college and in life!!!
  • Learn and play a Life Long sport!

CAMPUS REMINDERS

END OF YEAR SCHEDULE

The End Of Year Schedule for all FBISD middle schools can be accessed below. The schedule is for the days Friday, May 28 through Thursday, June 3. The district adjusted Wednesday, June 2, by making it a full day (8:50-4:05), rather than an early release day, because of minutes needed to comply with state law. Therefore, our only early release day is the last day of school, Thursday, June 3. School will be over at 1:20 that day.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance and engagement in all classes, regardless of learning model, is expected from every student, every day. Parent notes are required for all absences within five days from the absence date. Notes must include full student name as well as the reason for the absence (including technical difficulties). If a student misses a synchronous engagement, they are counted absent. Please email all absence notes to AttendanceSMS@fortbendisd.com. Contact our attendance clerk, Mrs. Williams, at (281)634-6322 if you have questions.

DAILY WELLNESS SCREENER

Parents/students must complete a Daily Wellness Screening through Skyward. If your child is cleared, they may attend school that day. If your child is not cleared, they may not report to school and a member from the district COVID-19 contact tracing team will contact families directly. In addition to the screener, students will receive, and must pass, a temperature check before reporting to their classroom. To make student entry as safe and efficient as possible, please make sure the screener is completed prior 8:00 AM each day. Another way students can be allowed in is by showing a screen shot of their “cleared” screen. This screen shot must show the date for that day to be accepted.

FACE MASKS

As part of our continued efforts to keep our students and staff safe, Fort Bend ISD will continue to require masks and facial coverings in all schools and District facilities.

The District will continue this requirement until it can further review guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Fort Bend County health officials, and the District’s medical advisor, and the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Per the Governor's statement, "public schools may operate as provided by, and under the minimum standard health protocols found in, guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency."

The overall health and safety of the community remains a priority, and District leadership is aware that not all employees have had the opportunity to be vaccinated. Retaining the mask mandate will ensure a safe learning environment for all students, teachers and staff. Students who arrive on campus without a mask will be given a fresh, new disposable mask to wear.
