What We Are Reading
Dante's Inferno:
The poet Dante is lost in a dark and gloomy wood. At the summit of a mountain he sees the light of salvation. He endeavors to ascend to it, but his way is barred by three wild beasts, symbolizing Avarice, Pride and Lust. Here he meets an author, Virgil, who is to be his guide on an adventure through the levels of Hell or The Inferno. Along the way, Dante meets many sinners and people he knows from his life on earth. This gruesome and frightening tale influences us to think deeply about the dangers of sin and the pitiful nature of the underworld.
"The path to Paradise begins in Hell"
"The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality."
