The Tiger Times

September 2018

MISSION

The MSD of Decatur Township is Student Invested, Community Connected. We prioritize Student learning, Safety and Customer Service, fostering a support system for our families.

A Note from your Principal

Dear West Newton families,

September has proven to be another busy month with student academics and activities at the forefront! Our first Tiger Time convocation was certainly enjoyable as we celebrated our Students of the Month, Tiger Stripe winners, perfect attendance, West Newton Spirit awards, and our community partnership with West Newton United Methodist Church. It’s always wonderful to share our celebration of our students’ successes with our West Newton families and community partners!

Our 6th graders had a special day with over 30 volunteers from Rolls Royce who partnered with their teachers – Mrs. Fortune, Miss Langley, Miss Linton, Mrs. Washer, and Ms. Wilson – along with our CIS Site Coordinator Mrs. Lecher to support students in planning for their future careers. Our Rolls Royce volunteers/community partners noted how impressed they were with our students for their perseverance in setting and achieving goals as well as with the respect shown toward our community partners.

We have some wonderful family events coming up that I want to ensure everyone is aware of and has placed in calendar notifications:

  • Sept. 26 Book Fair Grand Opening 5:30-7:00pm
  • Lunch with Someone You Love + Book Fair

Sept. 26 = Grade 4 at 12:30pm

Sept. 27 = Grade 3 at 11:00am

Sept. 28 = Grade 1 at 10:30am

Sept. 28 = Grade 2 at 11:30am

Oct. 1 = Grade 6 at 1:00pm

Oct. 2 = Grade 5 at 12:00pm

  • Oct. 3 is Conference Day – be sure to look for your confirmed time from your child’s teacher. The Book Fair will also be open all day!

Thank you for sharing your child with us at West Newton! We are Decatur Proud and know that our work matters and it is possible!

Sincerely,

Susan D. Strube
