Erin's Law Presentation by Victor Pacini
Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades Pre-K through 12. We have purchased the “Be Seen and Be Heard 2.0” video program from Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, an author, songwriter, singer, and motivational speaker. Mr. Pacini has assisted our schools in implementing this mandate for the past eight years.
Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. Parents who may wish to view an overview of the program can click here or the button below.
- Willowbrook (Kindergarten and Grades 2-5) students will view Mr. Pacini’s recorded program on Tuesday, January 31.
- Willowbrook (Grade 1) students will view Mr. Pacini’s recorded program on Friday, February 3.
- Willowbrook (Preschool) students will have a variation of Erin’s Law made specifically for Kid Connection on Friday, February 3.
- Maple students will view Mr. Pacini’s recorded program on Friday, February 3.
- Wescott students will view Mr. Pacini’s recorded program on Monday, February 6.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey starts Jan. 24
Beginning January 24, students and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the 11th annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers will be conducted January 24, 2023 through March 31, 2023. The Parent Survey Supplement will be conducted during that same timeframe. To take the survey please click here or the button below and select the appropriate survey to begin.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years’ Reports, please click here. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact UChicago Impact Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.

Seeking Sponsors for Lew Blond Run on May 20
The 22nd Annual Lew Blond Memorial 5K Run/Walk is seeking sponsors to support this fundraiser and community tradition happening Saturday, May 20 at Maple School! Your giving can include donating to our silent auction, monetary or in-kind donations (click the button below to learn more).
The run traditionally receives coverage on local TV, local radio, and in print and online media. The event has enjoyed successful participation every year, and we are among the top running events in the north suburban area. Those who choose to sponsor will help make it a great experience for our students, staff and community members who participate, and publicize your business to a wide audience.
This annual event honors former District 30 Teacher Lew Blond, who passed away from Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS) in February 2000. He was an exceptional and dedicated educator of the applied arts and was revered and cherished by his students, colleagues and parents of the children he served. The run attracts a wide range of participants and is supported by District 30, the Les Turner ALS Foundation, and the Lew Blond Memorial 5K nonprofit organization.
The Lew Blond Run consists of three events:
5K Run/Walk
One Mile Run
The “Little Lew” 50 yard dash for children ages 0-6 years
Proceeds benefit research through the ALS Foundation and are used for identified School District 30 projects. Race proceeds also fund scholarships for former Maple School students intending to pursue careers in education or the trades following graduation from Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South High Schools.
Thank you for your support and we hope you will support us on Saturday, May 20 for the 22nd annual Lew Blond Memorial 5K Run/Walk!

School Attendance
Seeing our students each and every day is very important to us. Students are most successful when they are present in their classrooms.
We understand that as a parent when your child seems under the weather you have a difficult decision to make. Vacation and appointment schedules may conflict with our school schedule as well. As we continue to partner please know we need all families to strive for daily student attendance.
Please stay in contact with our health office as we are here to help you navigate your child’s attendance at school.
Sign Language Club for 1st Graders
There are a few spots still available in the after school Sign Language Club for 1st grade students.
The 1st-grade club will be on Thursdays from 3:10 to 4:10 p.m. beginning January 26, running roughly eight weeks through March 23. (The week of Parent Teacher Conferences, we will NOT meet).
Membership is limited to 12 students. Students will learn to "finger sign" the alphabet and learn signs for other vocabulary including numbers, colors, animals, foods and more.
Participation is on a first come, first served basis, with priority given to students who have not participated in an after-school club this year. Parents will be required to arrange transportation of their children from school grounds. Since crossing guards are not on duty, any student who walks home needs parental permission.
