News from the School Counselor
I have been having the absolute best time spending 30 minutes each month in your child’s classroom! I have been introducing the students to some of my counseling characters, and the kiddos have been having a blast meeting them! So far this year, the students have met Cat and Cloud. This month they will be meeting Huggy, who is an Octopus that is working on respecting peoples' personal space.
Last month the social emotional topic that I covered in each class revolved around expanding your child’s feeling vocabulary. Each child was given a different feeling and had the opportunity to share the feeling that they were given with their peers. They then did a feeling-sort activity when each child sorted their feelings in a “comfortable” or an “uncomfortable” pile.
During the month of December, the students will be learning appropriate ways to express their uncomfortable emotions. We will discuss a number of different “tools” they can use to help them control their big emotions. Look for an activity to come home that will be completed during this month’s guidance lesson with some of your child’s preferable tools.
If you feel your child could benefit from my services, or if you or your family are in need of any support or resources, please do not hesitate to contact me: johansenn@avoneagles.org
A Visit with Santa
On Saturday, December 7th from 1:30-3:30 Santa will be arriving in Avon for the Tree Lighting Ceremony. He has reserved time exclusively for families with kids with special needs.
Santa will be at the Avon Senior Center (36784 Detroit Rd). The building is wheelchair accessible and activities will be available while you wait to have your family's time with Santa.
Space is limited, so please sign up using the Sign-Up Genius below:

Avon Care Center @ AELC
The AELC knows that sometimes we all need a little help here and there. We are working hard to promote kindness and community in the building. One way that we want to extend this beyond the building is offering help to those in need within the Avon Community. We have created a Care Center at The Early Learning Center.
This center will be available by appointment only with Mrs. Mudore, or you can select from this list of items and we can send items home in backpacks. Contact Mrs. Mudore at mudorec@avoneagles.org or 440-934-5124 to set-up an appointment.
Office Reminders
- With the weather getting much colder, please make sure your child has gloves, a hat, and a coat. We try our best to get outside for recess in temperatures above 20 degrees.
- Please have your ID ready when picking up your child from school.
Avon East staff would like to wish your family a safe, relaxing, and wonderful holiday break!
