January 2024
Happy New Year! We are so excited to start a new year with new learning! This month we will be learning a lot of new concepts and skills before the second quarter ends on January 29.

Snacks
Just a reminder that students need to pack a snack every day. Appropriate snack items include things such as: Pretzels, Fruits, Vegetables, Fruit Snacks. Please do not pack messy finger foods, candy, peanut products, foods that need to be eaten with a fork or spoon, or sugary drinks.
Math Facts
Please continue to encourage your child to practice their math facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These are very important skills for third graders.
π Homework Reminder
Please continue to check student assignment notebooks and home folders daily. Student math and reading homework are given daily.
π Curriculum Corner
Math βοΈβ
Students are building their understanding of area this month. Students will explore area as an attribute of two-dimensional figures and relate it to their prior understanding of multiplication.
Reading π
Students will explore the essential question: How can we predict the unknown? This essential question is related to weather and climate. In this unit, students will read and compare selections about weather conditions and climate patterns around the globe. We will focus on collecting key details and identifying cause and effect relationships in nonfiction texts.
Writing βοΈ
Using lessons from the Benchmark Curriculum, students will continue to work on writing in response to reading using nonfiction texts. Students will write an informative report. They will read several texts about climate and weather, and then write about a weather topic of their choice.
Science π§οΈ
Students are going to learn about severe weather this month. Examples include hurricanes, thunderstorms, blizzards, tornadoes, etc.
