Thursday at Glendale Elementary was “I’m Too Smart to Start!” day. All teachers and students were allowed to dress as nerds. Pictured are the 3rd-grade teachers and students who participated.
Eunice Mayor, Scott Fontenot, came to Glendale to speak to the 2nd-grade students about his job as Mayor and the things he does for our community.

Glendale Recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week and had a special guest. Mr. Kurt Vigers, a former Glendale student and McNeese football player, talked to students about the importance of positive behavior and getting a good education. Pictures are Mr. Kurt Vigers and Mrs. Laura Lombas.
Red Ribbon week came to a close at Glendale with an assembly. Students were rewarded for good behavior and good grades for the 1st nine weeks. Each class decorated a door and made a cheer to go with the theme of their door.
Students were rewarded with certificates for great A.R. scores during the Red Ribbon Assembly.

Highland's Annual Walk for the Cure
Highland's Pre-K had a fun filled day of Fall Activities on October 31st. They decorated hats, made pattern necklaces, completed a candy corn graph, dug seeds out of their pumpkin, and decorated their pumpkin...
KROTZ SPRINGS
Krotz Springs Elementary students and faculty enjoyed fun jumps, face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, a hayride, and more at the annual KSE Fall Fest.
LAWTELL ELEMENTARY
LAWTELL ELEMENTARY JOW 21st CCLC Program ~ Ms. Green and Ms. Toni's Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes painted pumpkins at the end of their lesson in honor of breast cancer awareness.
LAWTELL ELEMENTARY celebrated Red Ribbon Week on Oct. 22-26. This year’s theme was “Life Is Your Journey…Travel Drug-FREE!” The students and staff were able to participate in appropriate dress out days to raise awareness of drug prevention. Friday we ended with BLACKOUT drugs by dressing in all black.
Lawtell Elementary PreK classes held their Annual Trick-or-Treating campus activity as they went from class to class collecting treats.

NORTHEAST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
5th-grade students at Northeast Elementary in Mrs. Taylor's Science class are working on their Life Science Unit. They have partnered with the Southern Agriculture Center and have a variety of vegetables planted. They are observing their growth and keeping charts of each plant.
NORTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL
On Thursday, October 25, 2018, JAG Northwest students attended a field trip to learn more about our parish. The field trip was planned by Brandy Ledet and Brenda Foulcard of SLED and Workforce Development of St. Landry. Their day began at the SLED offices with guest speakers Brandy Ledet, Brenda Foulcard and Bill Rodier. Next, JAG students traveled to the Judicial Building to meet with St. Landry District Attorney Earl Taylor and Victims Advocate Susie Peck. Students were treated to a delicious gumbo, potato salad and desserts. Last, JAG students traveled to the Community Action Offices and were met by Mrs. Brenda Foulcard who organized a carousel of colleges and local employers as well as mock interviews. Such a great opportunity for our future workforce to learn more about our parish.

Mr. Fogleman and Mr. Budden were impressed with the Palmetto Elementary students during the social studies fair.

SUNSET ELEMENTARY
Sunset Middle School’ Just One Word 21st Century Program held Lights On Afterschool on Thursday, October 25th. The Sunset school community came together to show their support of the Afterschool program. Several parents told inspirational stories of how the program helped their children.
A PBIS Drug-Free Parade was held at Sunset Middle School on Friday, October 26th. This year’s theme was Life is Your Journey Travel Drug-Free. Special thanks to Chief Louie Padilla (Sunset Police Department), Chief Wilton Guidry (Grand Police Department), and Mayor Charles James for participating.
With over 80 participants, SMS CHEERING with Beta 1st annual 5k walk was a huge success! As Breast Cancer survivors cut the pink ribbon and initiated our walk, our very own Sunset Police Department escorted the walk through the town of Sunset, where it ended back on the grounds of Sunset Middle. Walkers and racers were greeted with cheers and chants by SMS’s Cheerleaders, bananas which were donated by Kevin Guidry’s Produce, music, food, free face painting, games, and a fun jump! Sunset Middle’s Voices of Creativity Poetry Club set-up shop with delicious sweets and the athletic department led by Coach Richard handed out delicious food. It was a beautiful day, a beautiful cause, and a beautiful collaboration! Our community and school are showing how we come together, fight together, and build together! We are #SunsetStrong!
Sunset Middle’s Bullying Prevention & Awareness Program included a poem from Voices of Creativity Poetry Club (students) Nigel P. and Kylee R. and guest speaker Trooper Gossen. Trooper Gossen made students aware of various issues, specifically focusing on the seriousness and laws associated with bullying.
An Accelerated Reader party was held at Sunset Middle School for students who met their AR goals for the 1st nine weeks of school on Monday, October 29th. Students were treated to Frito pies and a drink. Each student was issued a certificate of achievement.
