PVE Friday Focus

Tickle Belly Hill
As a father, I always get a kick out of long road trips with my family. Fun stories and the anticipation of seeing something new or taking the road less traveled (any Charles Kuralt fans out there?). One of the things that has happened with our family is the fact that my kids have nicknamed certain hills as "Tickle Belly". You know the kind, when you go down a big hill and it turns your stomach just a bit. This past week, I was driving down of those hills and my four year old starting deep giggling with "Tickle Belly Hill"! It made me stop and think about those little things in life that make the special memories for kids. In our school, it is the Friday song, the trip down to the library with your teacher telling you a special story, the celebration of a pulled tooth, etc. In essence, turning the mundane simple into something incredible. Just like the old saying, stop and smell the roses...stop and make the memories! As these very busy days start to wind down, remind yourself of the journey along the way that we are still building for our kids.
We hosted a team from the Department of Education this week. They walked our school, visited with several staff and students and spent about two hours visiting the culture of PVE. They are a part of the STEM department and review committee and visiting because of our STEM School application. This was their second visit to our school. It was very successful!
We also hosted several members of our school board, ESC and Leadership team as they toured our Adventure Center this past week. We engaged in robust discussion on the functionality of our Adventure Center and how it help expand on our student experiences. TV's have arrived and are now Chromecast ready...more training to come!
As our week comes to a close, I estimate we have hosted an interesting fact. Between students, staff and parents, we have had 5, 450 different times a person has walked into our building this week!
Lastly this week, we have celebrated another great states fair, successful field trips for third and first and multiple parents on campus. These days are busy but full of great memories!
To add to your calendar:
The transportation center is being paved and striped starting June 2. That means I will need to relocate all 87 buses. I am asking if I can park 40 buses at ZMS in the bus lot and 30 buses at PVE in the bus lot from June 1-5. The plan is to have the driver’s park in your lots after the completion of the afternoon routes on the final day of school. Buses will not be in your lots until 4 pm or after.
This past Monday, the Zionsville Board of Trustees approved a new hire for PVE. Please join me in welcoming Kim Gray to our staff. Kim is a graduate of California State University. Kim has eight years of teaching experience in grades 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. She also has four years experience as a literacy coach. While Kim was teaching at Washington Elementary, she won Teacher of the Year for the entire district Kim has also led professional development for several school districts including Zionsville. Join me in welcoming Kim to Team PVE!
