CANKTON ELEMENTARY
Cankton faculty, staff, and administration did it again! Their family math night was a great success with barely a parking spot to be found. This year's theme was Blockbuster Family Math Night based on The Oscar's theme. The rooms and teachers were decorated by movie including Trolls, Frozen, Minions, Inside Out, Moana, and Finding Nemo. Each room had math games based on a particular domain or cluster from the Louisiana Student Standards and was differentiated by grade level. The topics included real-world problem solving, linear measurement, place value, operations with numbers, and two-dimensional geometry. After completing all six games for their grade level the students received a deck of cards that looked like a movie reel and a booklet on math games to play with the cards. Moreover, Mrs. Pat Mason-Guillory provided each family the opportunity to win an additional prize of flashcards. Winning numbers were called throughout the evening and the families could pick the cards they wanted. You can view pictures using the link below. Take a minute to enjoy the photos.

OPELOUSAS HIGH SCHOOL
Opelousas High School proudly recognizes Ahraf Swati as Student of the Year. The Louisiana Department of Education annually recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding students enrolled in public, private or charter schools throughout the state at the fifth, eighth and twelfth-grade levels. The students compete at the school level, the parish level, regional level and then state level to find one winner for each of the aforementioned grades. The competition includes filling out an exhaustive application listing all academic and extracurricular accomplishments, building a detailed portfolio of achievements and writing samples. Student of the Year candidates must also maintain a 3.2 GPA. Ahraf shines as an honor student at OHS with a 4.24 GPA. Ahraf had previously competed at the fifth and eighth-grade levels and was surprised, but pleased to win the school level competition and even more surprised to win the parish level. He states, “I am extremely honored by both achievements and have the privilege to move on to regionals and represent St. Landry Parish.” Good Luck Ahraf!
