Welcome to our 4th Grade Newsletter!

Here you will find all of the important information for things happening in 4th grade at ROE. Dates, reminders, what we're learning -- it's all here. At the bottom, you will also find a link to the ROE Campus Weekly Newsletter. Check there for even more information about the whole campus.

What we're learning this week

Math: We will be reviewing place value, comparing and ordering whole numbers and decimals, adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals, and rounding whole numbers. We will have our CBA on Wednesday.

Science: We will be reviewing matter and its physical properties, as well as mixtures and solutions. Our CBA will be on Thursday.

ELAR: We will be reviewing author's purpose and messages in a text. Our CBA will be on Thursday.

Social Studies: We will explain the importance of using a variety of resources in research.

Heads up!

The week of the 19th is the last week of the 6 weeks. Please monitor your student's grades on Skyward closely this week, especially as the CBA scores are added later this week.

CBA?!! What's that?

CBA stands for Curriculum Based Assessment. In ROISD, we take a CBA every six weeks for science, math, and reading/writing. These will all happen during the last week of the six weeks. The tests cover everything for that six weeks. Depending on the subject, this could be one unit or multiple units. We will always review before a CBA. These grades cannot be dropped from the grade book per district grading policy. If a student fails a CBA, we re-teach the misunderstood concepts, then re-test. For re-tests, we are not allowed to give a grade higher than a 70%.

What is Class Dojo? A way for families and teachers to communicate about our students. We have a point system that allows us to reward and redirect students throughout the day. We can also share announcements and cool things students are doing throughout the day.

Why do parents need to join it? It is proven by research that parent involvement positively impacts students' success! Your student and teachers want to highlight all the great things happening in the classroom and show it all to everyone at home. Dojo makes this easy to do!

How do I join my student's class? There is a Class Dojo app for Android and Apple users that is free to download. It's completely free to use at home and at school. You will be able to connect to your student ONE TIME and have access to all of your student's teachers. Only join the HOMEROOM class for your student.
