The Principal's Desk At Sycamore ES
Week beginning February 14th
Sycamore Parents,
Thank you for a great start to our month. We have jumped right in and made a lot of great strides with our students.
Last Friday, was one of our busiest days at Sycamore in a long time! We started off with the Beta Club Induction for our 4th graders, a Student Council Bake Sale and student leaders coming to our school to work with our 3rd-5th grade students for our Junior Achievement program. These awesome Lanier High School students had a chance to talk to our students about financial literacy and ways to consider entrepreneurship. It's never too early to begin the conversation and as we improve our teaching and learning of Project Based Inquiry Learning it gels with our vision exceptionally well.
Our students loved on us in a great way through their many expressions of love for Valentine's Day and we appreciate you for sending them with such sweet items. I hope your weekend was enjoyable and memorable as well!
Thank you to all of our dad's who were able to attend Chick-Fil-A night this past Thursday. Due to grad school, I missed it for the first time. I was saddened, but heard that everyone looked great and had a great time! We are planning a mother/son "Knight" at Chick Fil-A as well, so stay tuned for more information to come.
This week is another week of busy times as our 1st-5th grade students forge ahead to prepare for our district assessments which will begin on February 29th. These assessments are administered online and they allow teachers to gather whether their students are learning the AKS curriculum and at what level they are obtaining it. Please make sure that you are consulting with your child's teacher about their progress and how they are doing behaviorally and academically. If you aren't on the parent portal yet to see their grades, please come to our school with your ID and we will get you signed up.
Please join us on Thursday at 9 AM and/or 6:30 PM for our Georgia Milestones training. While it will focus on 3rd -5th grade students, all parents of students in grades K-2 are welcome to attend. This is a crucial meeting for you to understand the elements of this assessment which is very different from the CRCT. It is much more difficult and will require much more from our students. This year also students must pass it in certain subjects to be promoted. Please come to get the details!

PAWS for Attendance
Congratulations to the 3rd Grade for winning the Highest Percentage of Perfect attendance for the second time this year, with 68%. Ms. Kuykendall's Class had the highest percentage for an individual class with over 90%. Overall, the school had 61% perfect attendance for the month of January, down by 11% from the previous month. As the weather turns colder make sure you and your student are doing the needed things to stay well such as eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and washing hands frequently. If you child does miss a day, please remember to send in a note to the teacher upon the student's return. We look forward to seeing your child here everyday, on time!
