Elementary Students are Shipwrecked and Stranded!
Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
Last weekend, @5BSuperstars from Cottonwood Creek Elementary set sail for a class trip to the Caribbean. Parents and Teachers were not invited, the only people aboard were the 23 5th graders, in search for an adventure- and an adventure they did find! Trouble in paradise began to brew as something went very wrong! Their ship went off course and cannot be found! Search and rescue teams are working around the clock to find these fearless learners, but so far there is no sign of their ship! Where could they be!?
Your Assignment...
With a partner, pretend that you and the rest of your class are abandoned on an island in the middle of the ocean. No teacher or other adults are present. You have some food and water and there are materials to build shelter. "What do you think would be the best ways for the group to decide how to deal with the following difficult problems?" (Not what they should decide, but how.)
-Deciding how to distribute the limited amount of food.
-Deciding who will build the shelters.
-Deciding who will grow more food.
-Deciding how to keep the people safe from members of the class who might be bullies.
-Deciding who should lead a party to seek rescue for the group.
-Decide what rules the group will follow and how to enforce them.
-Etc...
