Synchronous Learning Schedule
Beginning Monday, April 20th, Rock Ridge will begin synchronous (live) learning sessions on a scheduled basis. Although LCPS will not calculate grades for the last marking period of the school year, instruction will continue via synchronous and asynchronous learning. Parents and teachers will motivate students to complete all coursework in order for students to master competencies and skills so that students will:
● remain on track with the learning that will take place for the remainder of the 2020-2021
school year.
● avoid summer recovery or further remediation whenever possible.
● be prepared to move forward to the next level of the course in the fall with little or no
remediation.

Google Meets - Standards for Students and Parents
Please read the standards in the PDF below regarding Google Meets and the expectations for synchronous learning.
In summary,
- Google Meet is an online meeting and video conferencing tool for students, families, and teachers.
- Teachers will be recording whole class synchronous instruction.
- This recording may be used to share with students unable to access the original session.
- Recordings will be available for a week after the session.
- Schools will be obtaining permission for the recording of sessions via Permission Click.
- If a parent or guardian does not want their student’s image recorded, the camera should be turned off. Unless otherwise needed, we recommend that cameras are turned off during synchronous instruction.
- As with all social networking tools, student usage should be understood and monitored.
- Parents should have conversations with students reinforcing the expectation that school tools be used for school work only.
- We also encourage parents to actively monitor how students are using their LCPS-provided device and set guidelines that align with the parent’s expectations.
Permission Click and Resources
Permission Click will serve as acknowledgement that parents understand that live teaching sessions will be recorded.
Please note:
This link will need to be completed by parents to acknowledge live sessions involving their student. Click here.
Teachers will record all synchronous (live) meetings regardless of content.
If parents do not sign the consent to record form, they can have their child participate with their camera off, or choose to have their child view the recording once the teacher makes it available.
As a best practice, students should turn off their camera prior to entering a meeting. Unless otherwise needed, we recommend students turn their cameras off during all synchronous sessions.
Again, if a school does not receive permission from a parent/guardian, the student may still participate with the camera off or may access the recording of that session from the teacher after it has processed.
The students are responsible for turning off their camera, as teachers are unable to manage participants’ video in Google Meet.
