Exquisite Collaboration Show
Attention All First Semester Art Club Students!
The Exquisite Collaboration show is this Friday, January 12, from 6-8 pm at the Bancroft Gallery. We hope you'll join us to see your art on display with other OPS middle school students! Please see Mrs. McClintock or Mrs. Gotch with any questions you may have.
Buffett Science and Engineering Fair
The Buffett Science and Engineering Fair is rapidly approaching. All students should have their binder complete and handed into their science teacher. On January 12, all Science Fair display boards are due.
The boards should be turned into student's science teacher. BSEF participants will bring their boards to the gym during science class on Thursday, Jan. 18, for set up. Viewing for families will be on January 18th during Magnet Open house from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
January 19th is the Buffett Science and Engineering Fair. Awards will be Monday, January 22, and January 23, 2018 during Bobcat Den. Good luck to all the Buffett Science and Engineering participants. We are proud of you and your efforts.
School Hours
Please note Buffett Middle School closes at 3:15 PM. All students must be out of the building unless previous arrangements have been made or if they are participating in a supervised after school activity (sports, band, or homework hideout, etc.) Just a reminder Buffett Middle school does not offer any after school student care.
We appreciate your help in supporting our effort to keep your student accounted for and safe. The entrance and commons area should be vacated by 3:15. Thank you.

Student Device Advice - Updated Warranty Information
Recently, we were made aware that the warranty on student devices covers two warranty repairs per school year. The warranty covers accidental damages like broken/cracked screens, malfunctioning keys, broken cases, etc. The warranty does not cover purposeful damage that is witnessed by school personnel.
If your family purchased the optional device protection plan, it covers damages not covered in the warranty. It does not cover the loss of a device that has not been reported stolen.
Due to this information, we are making a slight change in how we handle repairs when needed. Starting Jan. 9, student laptops needing repair will be sent in for repairs rather than immediately being assigned a different laptop to use. The student will be required to wait for their laptop to return to Buffett.
What Questions Should You Ask Your Child About School?
According to Amanda Morin from the website www.verywell.com, open ended questions that elicit conversation are better to ask than your typical, "How was school today?" Try these suggestions instead:
- What was your favorite part about school today?
- What happened at school today that you would have liked to have gone differently?
- Was your whole class there today? (Follow-up question: With so-and-so absent, did it change the way your class worked together?)
- Was the test you were studying for as hard/easy as you thought it would be? What kind of questions were on it?
- Who sat with you at lunch today?
- Tell me one new thing you learned at school today and I'll tell you one thing I learned at work.
- Who or what made you laugh today?

Student Safety Tip
Please share the following safety information with your students to remain safe during dismissal from school.
Students should cross the street using the designated crosswalks only. It is extremely dangerous to cross in the middle of the street as cars go by. In addition, please follow Officer Mahoney and all crosswalk supervisors. Always using the crosswalks and following the directions of crosswalk guards makes for a safe pickup and walk home.
Thank you for your support.
