October
Creeptober in the library!!!!
First, it is time for our Storybook Character Pumpkin Contest. Students and their families may decorate a faux pumpkin (preferred) or real one (without making any holes in it) as a character from their favorite book.
Second, a schedule will be sent soon for you to sign up for me to come by and have "Creepy Storytime" with your students, if you'd like to participate. Reading aloud to students is such a valuable gift that we can give to our students. "Reading aloud to young children, particularly in an engaging manner, promotes emerging literacy and language development and supports the relationship between child and parent," concludes a review in this month's Archives of Disease in Childhood. More importantly, it will promote a student's lifelong love of reading.
Third, there will be a display of "creepy" books for your students to check out. Behind Diary of a Wimpy Kid, scary books are the most requested books in the library!
What's new @your library?
I'm glad you asked!
First, I've put out a little reset brick, by the checkout computer, so it will be much easier for our little ones to reset the computer and close their account.
Second, the library's Class Dojo has been set up. Classes that come to the library and help maintain their class bookcase &/or use proper procedures, manners, etc. have been earning Dojo points! At the end of each of the 9 weeks, one class from K-2 and one class from 3-5 will win the "Golden Book" Award and a small prize.
Third, we now have Junior Librarians working in the library! Approximately 150 students applied to work in the library. I will be calling a few in at a time to work during their lunch or recess time. Those students work for a couple of weeks before I call new ones. Some of these helpers deliver books to teachers or students. They will be wearing a special hall pass to let you know what they are doing in the hall.

Technology Tricks & Treats
Did you know that you can take a "shortcut" to a website? After you type a word into the URL bar you can surround it with “www.” and “.com” by pressing control + enter. Try it using the word Disney, for example.
And finally, I have a co-contributor to my newsletter this month! The knowledgeable Liana Alvarez enlightened me with this technology tidbit: Did you know that you can change the color of your Google Drive folders by simply right-clicking on the folder and changing the color? Quick trick to keep organized! Just tried this neat trick & I'm loving it. Thanks, Liana!
I'm sure some of you may know how to do this already, but if you don't, you are going to love this! Have you ever wanted to print on sticky notes? You could print a reminder to send home, homework assignment, rewards, etc. It is just a new and creative way of doing things. If you are interested, click here for the simple to follow directions. I foresee one that I've made in your future. LOL
I love Teachers Pay Teachers....
