Extraordinary October Experiences

McEducators Night Brings Jefferson Families Together

The Jefferson PTO organized another successful event, bringing many of our families together to raise money for our school. Families and staff members shared many smiles, and a few french fries, during this energizing evening. Thanks to all who helped organize this event, worked a shift, and/or dined out to benefit our school!

BETHANY BASKETBALL PLAYERS VISIT JEFFERSON PE CLASSES

For the past several years, Mrs. Henke has partnered with Bethany Athletics to bring some of their student athletes to visit Jefferson School. Bethany basketball players led Jefferson PE classes through some fun skill practice and basketball-related games, while reminding them of the importance of hard work in the classroom as well as on the court. Below are a few photos taken during their visits.

ANOTHER COMMUNITY PARTNER TEAMS WITH JEFFERSON SCHOOL

Jefferson Elementary 5th graders were fortunate to participate in a "Foundry in a Box" experience with mentors from the American Foundry Society. Dotson Iron Casting hosted a Future Leaders of Metalcasting meeting in Mankato, and many attendees volunteered for this school outreach opportunity. Jefferson's 5th graders learned from people all across the U.S. (and Mexico!) who work in industries related to metalcasting. Then they were able to actually do a metalcasting! Students used patterns and sand to make a mold, watched as melted tin was poured into the mold (at around 600 degrees Fahrenheit), and then students cleaned and finished their final casting. Everyone took home their own tin casting. Much was learned about the different career opportunities in manufacturing and the importance of this industry in our everyday lives. Thank you to Dotson Iron Casting for bringing this amazing opportunity to our students! Check out the video link below documenting this incredible experience.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP GETS A NEW LOOK

In an effort to allow more opportunities for students to demonstrate their leadership skills at Jefferson, we have revamped the way we provide such opportunities. Instead of having a Student Council comprised of only two students from each 1st - 5th grade classroom and a group of Peacemakers from 4th and 5th grade rooms, we are providing many more options for students interested in being leaders. Seven Student Leadership Teams have been developed to allow for students to display their talents as role models in our building. Interested students were allowed to sign up for one of the following: Cafeteria Team, Playground Team, Clean-Up Team, School Announcement Team, Welcome Team, Office Assistance Team, and the Events Team. There will be three leadership sessions as well, so students can participate on different teams, if they so desire, later in the school year. Sign-up for the first session yielded 123 student leaders! We are very excited to see them demonstrate their leadership talents.
