ANOTHER COMMUNITY PARTNER TEAMS WITH JEFFERSON SCHOOL
Jefferson Elementary 5th graders were fortunate to participate in a "Foundry in a Box" experience with mentors from the American Foundry Society. Dotson Iron Casting hosted a Future Leaders of Metalcasting meeting in Mankato, and many attendees volunteered for this school outreach opportunity. Jefferson's 5th graders learned from people all across the U.S. (and Mexico!) who work in industries related to metalcasting. Then they were able to actually do a metalcasting! Students used patterns and sand to make a mold, watched as melted tin was poured into the mold (at around 600 degrees Fahrenheit), and then students cleaned and finished their final casting. Everyone took home their own tin casting. Much was learned about the different career opportunities in manufacturing and the importance of this industry in our everyday lives. Thank you to Dotson Iron Casting for bringing this amazing opportunity to our students! Check out the video link below documenting this incredible experience.
