Principal's Letter

Dear Lake Windward Families,

Happy Spring! It is hard to believe we are just days away from our spring break! Our LWE students and staff have been working hard this semester, so I know next week will be a welcomed change of pace for many of our students, staff and parents. Having some down time with family and friends is a great way to recharge our batteries and be ready to close out this school year in a strong fashion!

Please join me in congratulating our LWE Science Olympiad team and coaches for placing in the top 3 schools in the FCS district competition last weekend! These students now get to compete in the state competition in May at Kennesaw State University. I am so proud of this team because they have put in the hard work over the last few months, and it truly paid off as every student earned either a medal or a ribbon in their events at the district competition.

I hope all of our LWE families have a safe, healthy, and fun break next week!

Kind regards,

Julie Morris

ELA Parts 1-3: May 4-6

Science: May 10 (5th grade only)

Math Parts 1&2: May 11-12

A Note From FCS Assessment Department

Georgia Milestones testing begins Monday, April 25 (for MS & HS). The test measures knowledge and skills in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies and provides critical information about achievement and readiness for next level of learning. With the absence of significant testing data from the last two years, this year’s scores will be used to establish a new baseline for schools and the district. Participation is crucial. The district expects all students in grades 3-8 and those in a high school end-of-year (EOC) course to participate. Thank you for partnering with the district to ensure a high rate of student participation.

As you know, our Lost & Found items have been outside our media center doors under the overhang for the last couple of weeks. Thank you to all the parents who have come by to check it out and claim your students' items! However, there are still many really nice jackets, sweatshirts and other items! Please come by before Thursday of this week as all remaining items will be donated to charity on March 31st. Please be reminded to put your child's name on their items going forward, so we can be sure to return them to you if they are found!

A Note From Our School Social Worker

Attendance Matters ALL DAY, EVERYDAY Excused and unexcused absences easily add up to too much time lost in the classroom, putting students at risk academically. In order for students in Fulton County Schools to learn and achieve to their fullest potential, it is critical that they attend school and are engaged in the learning process. Student absences, whether excused or unexcused, impact a child's ability to succeed in school. Some absences are unavoidable. We understand that during this time of COVID it is important to keep your children home if they are not feeling well. The important thing is to get your children to school as often as possible, on time and to communicate with the school when your child will be absent. Please do not forget to send in a note when your child is absent. This helps the teachers but also helps with coding the absence accordingly.

Please remember that the late bell rings at 7:40. Students need to be in their classroom ready to learn at that time. If you are a car rider, please leave a few minutes earlier in the morning to get your child to school on time. Please consider having your child ride the bus if they are chronically tardy. Lateness causes disruptions in learning, and it has an impact on academic success.

If you need support with improving your child's attendance, please reach out to Kaitlyn Jimenez, School Social Worker by emailing
