One School, One Book

March is Reading Month is upon us, and we are super excited to kick it off with our One School, One Book school-wide initiative! Youngest and only students that ordered the books will receive them on Monday. Inside the books, you will find a reading calendar for the month of March. This is a great way to spend about 20 minutes together as a family and a book that we can all talk about at school the very next day! Please join me on Monday night for a Facebook Live event as I read the first chapter from our mystery book. I hope to see many families participating. Don't worry if you can't join us at 6:00 because the link will remain live for you and your family to preview it any time Monday evening after 6:00!

Many of you ordered his book and had it signed by him. His next book is set to release on March 5. PLEASE VOTE TUESDAY, MAY 7

ANNUAL OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL

On May 7, Hudsonville School parents and community members will have the chance to vote on our annual Non-Homestead Millage renewal. This is an annual renewal request that voters have approved for the past 24 years and, if approved, would generate approximately $4.8 million dollars of operating revenue for our school district. Please note, this is not a tax on primary residences and is not a new tax.

Official ballot language is as follows:

Hudsonville Public Schools

Operating Millage Renewal Proposal

This proposal will allow the school district to continue to levy the statutory rate of not to exceed 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance.

Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Hudsonville Public Schools, Ottawa and Allegan Counties, Michigan, be increased by 18 mills ($18.00 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for the year 2019, to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2019 is approximately $4,850,000 (this is a renewal of millage that expired with the 2018 tax levy)?

Count on Me-Alward Students and Staff Making a Difference

This year, our students and staff are working on taking initiative to make a difference in the lives of others. If you hear about how an Alward student, teacher, or staff member made a difference in someone else's life, please fill out the Google Form below. We will be posting these "Count on Me" sightings on our new bulletin boards right outside the main office. Students, parents and staff members can recognize others for things as simple as someone always saying hello to them or holding the door for them. We can also recognize others for going as far as helping out in the community. We want to know how our students and staff are making a difference at Alward and out in the community and celebrate these acts of kindness this year! Thank you for taking the time to support this "Count on Me" initiative this school year!
