Director's Message

Dear AISM Families,

Welcome June, summer vacation, family time and the end of the school year. And what a year it has been! I am reminded that we got through this unprecedented year together. Through the ups and downs, closings and openings, quarantines and COVID tests, we survived. We not only survived; we actually thrived as our recent MAP scores indicate. I am grateful for the parents, students, teachers and our community at large for their strong show of support.

There are many people and organizations in the AISM community that have helped guide the work of the school. The AISM Board of 2020-2021 was unwavering in their support and kept the vision alive to open a high school in this upcoming school year. We now have a dedicated HS space, a HS counselor and Pre AP/AP classes beginning this fall. As we welcome the new AISM Board of Trustees who met this past Saturday, I am confident that they too will work to guide, support and direct the school towards continuous growth.

An update on the uniforms:

This past Monday, one of our long time parents has stepped up and will be working with me and a reliable vendor, who will be able to supply quality uniforms for AISM.

The school shirt and PE uniforms will be available for purchase in early August. More updates to follow...this has been a journey. Thank you for your patience.

As a reminder:

The 2021 -2022 school year start time is 8:00am - end time is 2:45pm.

After School Activities will be Monday - Thursday 2:45pm - 3:45pm.

Summer Reading:

Teachers will send home a summer reading list with suggested titles. Grades 9 and 10 Pre AP English and AP Psychology students will have summer required reading assignments.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a wonderful summer break, whether you are traveling or staying local, take time to relax, rejuvenate and rest.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school August 25th!

Stay safe and healthy,

AISM 2020 -2021- Thank you!

AISM MUN- Speaker Series Inaugural Year!

Big picture

Madame President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was invited to speak to the AISM MUN by our MUN Director Mr. Andrae Parchment. When we received the news that indeed she was coming to AISM we were in total shock. The entire school gathered out front to greet her with big smiles. As she walked to the SPR taking the time to acknowledge everyone and the campus improvements she said, "The school feels alive.” She had not been on campus since 2007.

She spoke to our MUN students about the 17 UN sustainable goals in general, more specifically she addressed the goal of ending Racism, Xenophobia, Inequality, which was the goal she was assigned to speak on. When asked by a student “how can students fight against Racism, Xenophobia, Inequality, her answer was simple “courage”. “Courage to stand up in the face of these things that would seek to divide us.

It was a wonderful afternoon, she took questions, posed for pictures, and toured the new HS Hub. We are truly fortunate to have had the opportunity to have Madame President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf visit, speak and be a part of the AISM legacy.
