Pilgrims on the Way of Truth

First FULL Week DONE!

Such a successful first full week of school! Classes are fully underway (including homework assignments!) our athletes are proudly representing our school at early-season competitions, and many of our clubs are forming and beginning to meet! All of our students should have picked up their Tech Devices this week - and many have already started using them regularly in class. We are so excited to bring this new educational tool to our successful curriculum.

This week, we celebrated our first All-School Mass together and we were thrilled when Father Twenty announced that he was going to continue the tradition that Father Doyle had started many years ago of announcing an annual theme for us all to reflect on. This year's theme is absolutely perfect: Rejoice and Be Glad! He reminded us that every day we are alive gives us reason to rejoice and be glad! Every day is an opportunity to give thanks. It is an opportunity to show appreciation, love, and be loved. For the gift of life - we should always rejoice...and be glad!

We sincerely rejoice in every day that we are able to open our school to our students and families. We are glad to hear from our dear alumni and celebrate their milestones with them. Our teams and clubs are beginning to celebrate mass together, and we are seeing more and more students visit our chapel for daily mass now offered before school! We are also excited to announce that Father Twenty will be hearing Confessions every Monday during all the lunch hours, and we will offer Adoration during the lunch hours every Thursday. We are continually seeking meaningful ways to enrich every day with the Gospel and providing opportunities to grow in faith!

Please continue to pray for the Marian Central community - students, families, faculty, staff, and coaches.

Student Handbook Class Chats!

Today, every class was invited to the Auditorium to have grade-specific "class chats" that help remind our students about some key matters within the Student Handbook. The students have been absolutely AMAZING here at school - and we only want that wonderful behavior to continue and allow our school's mission to become a reality for everyone!

The one key change we have made - and articulated to our students - is that now that we have 1:1 devices for school - students should make sure that they have their CELL PHONES powered off - or silenced - and placed in their backpacks at all times. We stress the importance of courtesy and etiquette: using a cell phone without a teacher's permission is disrespectful. Teachers have the right to confiscate a student's cell phone and turn it into the front office. The student will be able to pick up their cell phone at the end of the day - and will receive a detention.

Another item we stressed is the importance of BEING AT SCHOOL ON TIME, EVERY DAY. According to the Student Handbook - students are permitted only THREE EXCUSED TARDIES PER SCHOOL YEAR. If a student is late, we expect a parent/guardian to call the school to excuse them - HOWEVER, after the third excused tardy, all subsequent tardies will automatically be UNEXCUSED. Punctuality is a very crucial life-skill that our students need to learn. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to send forth graduates who have a very strong work ethic!

1:1 Device Information

Handing out almost 600 devices over the course of 4 days is no small feat - but our loyal crew of teachers and IT support staff were keeping that line moving and making sure all students received the proper device, stylus, power cord, "care and keeping" handout, as well as on-site training by the Microsoft Woodfield team!

We strongly encourage you to purchase a protective cover for your device - and PLEASE do not place any stickers directly on the devices! (If you have a protective case, it's ok to decorate the CASE - but please do not place stickers directly on the device!)

We have a vibrant Fine Arts department here at Marian Central! Art, Choir, Band, Orchestra, Madrigals, Theatre Performance, Technical Theatre - you name it! We support them all! HUNDREDS of our students are involved every year, in various ways - either through the class offerings, clubs, or concerts and productions. Please join us in our first Fine Arts Boosters meeting on Monday, August 27th in the Annex building (out-building near the school chapel/science wing.)

Interested in getting involved? Email our Fine Arts Bosters President, Amy Birkhoff at for more information!

All families are welcome to join us for our annual Back-to-School Night on August 28th! Come meet all your student's teachers, and follow an abbreviated version of your student's schedule!

School Floor Plan

We strive to create the safest possible environment, inside our school and out. Our young drivers may not fully understand the risks of a school parking lot - especially at dismissal time when everyone is walking to their cars and loading buses. We have noticed, too, that some drivers have engaged in risky behavior - such as pulling a "U-turn" when dropping off students in the morning, using open spots in the parking lot to turn around, or even ignoring stop-signs either posted, or on our buses that are unloading/loading students.

Thank you to all the drivers who respect our traffic patterns at afternoon pick-up. We have a mid-lot turn-around so drivers may safely navigate around the buses that have their stop-arm extended. The only vehicles we allow to pass these extended stop-arms are the PACE buses, since they are unable to navigate the turn-around safely. You'll often see Mrs. Loy guiding car-traffic in that area too. Ms. Novy, Mr. Maloney, and other members of the faculty also supervise the parking lots morning and afternoons to ensure our students' safety. Please know that buses are now equipped with video monitoring devices that may record reckless driving that endangers their passengers.

As with the start of every school year, Illinois police are making a concerted effort to help educate drivers about the importance of obeying the stop-arm laws. According to the Illinois State Police website, "Illinois law provides that the driving privileges of a person convicted of passing a stopped school bus will be suspended for three months for the first offense and one year for the second, if the second conviction occurs within five years. Additionally, the fine for a first conviction is $150 and $500 for a second or subsequent conviction."

Also, it's important to note that "the speed limit in school zones when students are present is 20 mph. Drivers arrested for speeding in a school zone must appear in court and face a minimum fine of $150."

Please take a few minutes to share this important information with your student-drivers. Not only do we want to keep our students safe from injury, but also prevent anyone from incurring these hefty fines and penalties. If we do see students disobeying these laws, we will be issuing school detentions - which, in comparison, is much more compassionate than an actual ticket!
