Important Teacher Information

Pre-final averages

At the end of the semester or after a semester has ended, teachers may be contacted by stakeholders requesting a student's pre-final average because the student has an incomplete in the class. Georgia Virtual School's policy is that we do not release pre-final averages. In the Student Information System, the stakeholders and students will see an incomplete grade for the pre-final average, the EOCT/final exam grade, and the final average. If you are contacted by a facilitator, student, or parent with this request, make sure you direct them to visit the Student Information System for the student's final grade and that we will not release any grade information for students with grades that are Incomplete.

Update Grades

  • Each day after you finish grading, make sure to open the d2l gradebook and let the page load. This ensures the data for the grade export file which is pulled each night is properly updated. The data within the grade export file is used to communicate grades to parents and facilitators through the SIS portals as well as Schoolcast calls and emails. Please help us communicate accurate information to our stakeholders.

  • Enter zeros for missing assignments before 10PM on Tuesday following each assignment due date. This ensures that the data pulled for SchoolCast is correct and that parents and students receive an accurate progress update.

  • Contact parents of failing students.

  • Update Communication Log with parent/student/facilitator contact information.

Google Information

Google Docs - Share Settings

Please be sure to check share settings on your google docs. If you have selected “Anyone with link”, for security reasons, please change share setting to “People at Georgia Virtual with link” or “Private - Only the people listed below can access”.

Google Email Accounts

We still have 512 students who have not linked their google email accounts. When checking student progress, be sure to take note if the student has failed to link the google email account.

Alternative to iGoogle

As many of you have seen if you use iGoogle, it will be unavailable after November 1st. There are several alternatives to iGoogle with Symbaloo being one of them. If you'd like to use Symbaloo, you can create an account at symbaloo.com. It is a free social service where you can access your bookmarks anywhere.

  • If you click Share and Stop updates, you will not receive updates that are made to this GaVS Webmix. This is not suggested, since we may add additional links to share with everyone.

  • You can also create your own Webmix with personalized links that are helpful to you You can access more than one Webmix at a time through tabs on the Symbaloo page. Here is a link to the the help section of Symbaloo. http://en.support.symbaloo.com/

  • You can set Symbaloo as your homepage at the bottom of the screen where it says "Set as my homepage." This would be similar to using iGoogle as your homepage.

  • This is a temporary solution to replacing iGoogle, but we are working on a GaVS account with Symbaloo. If you have any questions about setting up Symbaloo, please contact Kelli Robinson (kelli.robinson@doe.k12.ga.us.).
